Following a worldwide trend, traveling to the Galapagos Islands is about to get more expensive 💸 The mandatory entry fee is about to double its price 🤯 From August of this year onwards, it will cost $200 instead of the current $100. This is a one-off charge that covers all the days of their 60-day visa-free stay. Currently, visitors from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Perú and Uruguay have to pay $50, but it will also rise to $100. Ecuadorian travelers will see the biggest increase: from $6 to $30 🙏 📌 These changes aim to reduce pressure on the islands’ resources and combat overtourism. The money revenue from this measure will help raise funds for conservation, infrastructure and the community, according to the Galapagos Conservation Trust (GCT). 🏞️ The Galapagos are a UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising 19 main islands. They span almost 8000 km2 and are home to many endangered plants and animals. The Galapagos are a national park in Ecuador, which has declared 97% of the area as protected. #ecuadortravel #ecuadortour #ecuadortravelling #ecuadortourism #ecuadorvisa #ecuadortrip #ecuadorholiday #ecuadorvacation #tourismecuador #travelecuador #exploreecuador #discoverecuador #visitecuador #experienceecuador #ecuadorguide

Africa is not a once-in-a-lifetime destination. It’s time to change the narrative and make Africa a lifelong destination. Here's a few reasons why Africa needs to be revisited repeatedly again and again: • Africa is the world's second largest continent with almost 12 million square miles of tropical rain forests, deserts and vast savannahs. • There are over one million animal species, including both the heaviest (elephants) and the tallest (giraffes) land animals on Earth. • Of the 2,477 bird species in Africa, 1,400 (57%) are endemic to the continent. Traveling to Africa is vital for supporting local economies, preserving biodiversity, and promoting sustainable practices, as tourism revenue directly funds conservation initiatives, protects endangered species, and sustains communities reliant on wildlife-based economies, ensuring the long-term health of Africa's ecosystems. I like the phrasing below "In the past".. as #Malawi has been in the shadows, but it's fantastic to see it has become a chosen African travel destination. Having moved here 7 years ago and working in marketing, I've seen firsthand how much more sought after Malawi has become by international travelers! It was great meeting you, Petra Shepherd, and thank you for this wonderful article💙 Travel Matters | B Corp #Malawi #Travel #Marketing #TravelTrends
"In the past, Malawi tended to be neglected by travellers, little known, small and hidden in the Great East African Rift Valley, bordering Zambia, Tanzania and Mozambique. However, the country epitomises the saying, 'Small is Beautiful'. Landlocked it may be but it has its own inland 'sea', the stunningly beautiful crystal-clear #LakeMalawi. 🌊 I visited in April and the country known as the 'Warm Heart of Africa' didn't disappoint." Petra Shepherd 🌍 Travel Matters | B Corp Discover highlights of Malawi and updates from some of the most unique lodges, including our recommended 🐟 Blue Zebra Island Lodge 🏝 through this insightful article. "Operating off the grid, Blue Zebra has recently upgraded to a 3-phase elaborate solar system to ensure #sustainable operation of the lodge, with the introduction of free Starlink Wifi to stay connected when needed (although they highly recommend immersing yourself in 🌿#nature and disconnecting from the 'real world' for a few days)." We do understand that many of you still need to work on the go. With our increased connectivity, it's your choice: 📴 Put your out of office on and let everyone know that you're on a private, remote island in Lake Malawi and can't connect (a little while lie is okay if it's in order to have a #DigitalDetox and totally immerse yourself in nature 😉). 📳 Or, connect as you need to, whilst enjoying breathtaking views across Lake Malawi to inspire getting through any task! A paradise for remote workers and digital nomads. Adventure awaits! Mnemba Island, Tanzania, is surrounded by #coralreefs. A few years ago, these were in real danger – partly due to rising sea temperatures as a result of #globalwarming, partly due to tourism, and partly due to dangerous fishing practices such as using dynamite. Charities & Beyond and the Africa Foundation have collaborated with the local community to help improve this marine environment. Underwater nurseries were created, so that coral fragments could be grown to be replanted on the reef, restoring about 80% of coverage. Conservation Ranger, Hija Uledi, says, “We have restored the reef, and you can't tell the difference. Now they have fish around. The work is great, and many species can be seen.” Maintaining #marineecosystems is really important – and it is something we consider at FoundOcean in the offshore projects we take on. Do you know of other successful coral reef #restoration projects?

Fostering Peaceful Cohabitation Between People And Elephants In Namibia | Managing Director at EHRA - Elephant Human Relations Aid
What if you could enjoy elephants in the wild without causing them stress? EHRA's got the perfect plan to make that happen! To promote responsible and ethical elephant tourism, we collaborated with TOSCO Trust Namibia (Tourism Supporting Conservation) to conduct workshops addressing the increasing pressures on elephants due to tourism activities. We discussed issues like vehicles getting too close to elephants and visitors engaging in unsafe behaviours, And by the end of it, we came up with an effective solution 💡 We've introduced a new code of conduct that ensures minimal disturbance to elephants and promotes their well-being. Here’s what it includes: 🌿 Maintain a respectful distance of 70 to 80 metres from elephants at all times. 🚗 If elephants approach, be ready to drive off to avoid causing distress. ⏱️ Limit each elephant sighting to up to 15 minutes. 🚙 Ensure no more than three vehicles are present at any sighting. 🍎 No food in vehicles to avoid attracting elephants. 💤 Respect their natural behaviours, like sleeping, by giving them space. A heartfelt thank you to Brandberg White Lady Lodge and Twyfelfontein Country Lodge for graciously hosting the workshops. Let's keep Namibia's desert elephants happy and healthy together! #Education #Community #Conservation

Did you know that during mating season, cranes perform intricate dances characterised by graceful movements, and displays of their distinctive crown feathers? 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘫𝘶𝘮𝘱! This ritual strengthens the bond between mating pairs but also serves as a form of communication and a display of vitality. #2. Grey Crowned Cranes usually form monogamous pairs, although they are highly social birds and roost and forage as a group. They can sometimes be seen in large flocks on swamps and fields. #3. While the Grey Crowned Crane holds a revered status as Uganda's national emblem, it faces significant conservation challenges. Despite being protected by law, the crane is severely threatened, through drainage of its wetlands habitat for farming and construction, pollution and illegal trade. Efforts to protect their natural habitats are crucial for ensuring their continued existence in the wild. Fact: the birds' association with monogamy means their eggs are sometimes stolen from the wild to be given as wedding gifts! Visitors to Uganda always get excited when they see this iconic bird. We hope that by highlighting some of the lesser-known aspects of the Grey Crowned Crane, we deepen appreciation for this iconic bird and the importance of its conservation. Part 2 of, “On a Mission to Save the Whales” is here!😊 We hope you’re enjoying it so far.🐳 💙 “The Struggle in Norway” (🇳🇴): Turning her focus to Norway, Anna faced a more politically complex situation. Norway openly defied the IWC’s ban, driven by economic interests and cultural traditions. She worked with Norwegian researchers to collect data on whale populations, finding that commercial whaling was disrupting critical breeding individuals. Anna’s research provided compelling evidence of the negative impacts of whaling, which she used to advocate for non-lethal research methods and promote whale-watching tourism as a sustainable alternative. Her efforts included presentations to policymakers and public forums, which helped shift the debate toward more sustainable practices. Call to Action: Advocate for sustainable marine conservation policies and support initiatives that promote non-lethal research and eco-friendly tourism as alternatives to commercial whaling. Until the finale..👀 — #adventure #explorepage #igdaily #aeonforocean #marinebiologist #marinebiology #oceanconservation #stopwhaling #japan #norway #story #nonprofit #humpbackwhale #greywhale #killerwhale #orca #minnesota #marineconservation #augustvibes #follow #education #staytuned

🌴🌊 Mnemba Island: Leading the Way in Coral Reef Restoration 🌊🌴 The beautiful coral reefs around #MnembaIsland were under severe threat from climate change, overfishing, and human activities. Through the combined efforts of the local community, Africa Foundation, and other key stakeholders, we have seen an inspiring turnaround. Innovative methods like underwater nurseries and artificial reefs have been pivotal in these efforts. ✅ Key milestones include: - 80% coverage restoration of the "house reef" - Establishment of multiple artificial reefs - Significant socio-economic benefits for the local community In 2022, the government of Zanzibar designated the seas around Mnemba as a protected area, implementing measures to control tourist activities and boost conservation through higher visitor fees. Dr. Makame Omar Makame from the Zanzibar Marine Department announced plans to extend this model to other vulnerable reefs, signaling a new era for coral conservation. This project not only serves as a model for global conservation efforts but also underscores the critical importance of marine biodiversity and sustainability. #CoralRestoration #SustainableTourism #MarineEcosystems
