What is the best way to transition into Sales Engineering? Here are four ways to make the move 👇 1. Transition Internally If you work for a company that sells a technical product or service, this is the easiest route. Reach out to the Sales Engineering Manager and express your interest. Discuss your goals with your current manager and create a plan and timeline for the transition. 2. Apply for an Entry-Level Sales Engineering Role Some companies offer associate or entry-level Sales Engineering positions, especially larger firms with comprehensive onboarding programs. Apply for these roles and you might break into the field directly. 3. Apply for a Tech Support Role This is one of the most common paths to becoming a Sales Engineer, so don’t overlook it. You want to be selective, however. Target companies that have Sales Engineering positions so you can progress internally. 4. Get Domain Expertise and Then Transition Specializing in a niche can be highly valuable. Whether you’re a DevOps Engineer, Data Engineer, or Security Engineer, your expertise makes you attractive to companies selling related products. One huge hack for hiring and quickly training in, is hiring two people for the same role. It's insane how much faster they become proficient. They are able to lean on eachother and essentially self train much of the time. Sharing successes and failures, simultaneously updating SOPs, and having an equal to rely on. Recently seen this work with customer success and repeating for sales development. In my experience, the value this brings outweighs the additional overhead within 90 days. #hiring
