An emerging capability at the Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (EMSL): Researchers who access EMSL resources through an open call can access SepQuant dropletProbe (HTX) for liquid extraction surface analysis (LESA) of small molecules and lipids. When coupled to nanoflow liquid chromatography systems, this instrument provides more accurate molecular identification. Maximal spatial resolution 300 µm. Hello community. Here is a challenge: 1. What is a synthetic biomarker and why is it necessary to generate synthetic data for simulation purposes? 2. Which healthcare monitoring use cases specifically require synthetic biomarker data simulations, and what are their main objectives? 3. How do real-world biomarker datasets look like, in terms of sample size, variables, and measurement units? 4. What are the current methods used for generating synthetic biomarker data, and how accurate are these approaches? 5. Are there any ethical concerns or legal restrictions that need to be taken into account while working with real-world biomarker datasets or generating synthetic data from them? 6. Which simulation models have shown promising results in healthcare monitoring use cases utilizing synthetic biomarker data, and what are their key advantages? 7. How can we ensure the quality and validity of the generated synthetic biomarker data while maintaining privacy concerns and avoiding bias or distortion of the original dataset? 8. What standardization efforts have been made within the scientific community for generating and utilizing synthetic biomarker datasets, and how can we contribute to these initiatives? Our multidisciplinary team, led by Carolina de Weerth, and consisting of Maartje Luijk Anneloes van Baar Joyce Knappe Noortje van Duijnhoven Koos van der Velden and Gianluca Esposito, was so fortunate to receive an NWO Open Competition Large grant to invest the role of physical closeness in parent-infant well-being and development! This also means that we will be hiring. The first vacancy is for a talented postdoctoral researcher! https://lnkd.in/da2EcwD8 The transition to parenthood can be challenging and is often related to mental and physical problems in parents. Parent-infant physical closeness (PIPC) sharply decreases over the first months in Western families, while studies show that PIPC is important for healthy child development and potentially also for maternal wellbeing. PIPC may hence offer unique opportunities to support both child development and new parents’ wellbeing. However, large gaps in knowledge on fathers, causal associations, underlying mechanisms, and long-term relations preclude further developments. Will you help us with further research?

Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF), a cytokine, is associated with the quality of oocytes. It is also one of the cytokines that embryos cannot produce autonomously. In a published study comparing cytokine levels in oocyte donor follicular fluid, GM-CSF levels were significantly higher where all oocytes were high quality, compared with where <60% were high quality. Understanding the dynamics of multicomponent cytokine systems could lead to targeted interventions to improve IVF outcomes. Interested? We are.
