For the first time in Singapore, S690 structural steel, almost twice as strong as traditional steel, has been successfully incorporated into construction. Kudos to Professor Chiew Sing Ping and Assistant Professor Zhao Ming Shan from the SIT Construction Technology Innovation Laboratory (CTIL) for this remarkable innovation. Their HISTEEL innovation transforms flat S690 steel plates into ready-to-use structural shapes. With up to 40% less material usage than conventional steel, HISTEEL is stronger, lighter, and more sustainable. This innovation, in collaboration with industry partners Woh Hup (Private) Limited and TTJ Holdings Ltd, will lead to safer, more efficient, and space-optimised urban projects.
