Reflecting on the resignation of Claudine Gay, the first Black Harvard president, is a sobering reminder of the complex dynamics at play within higher education that expose major issues regarding education solely becoming a business instead of a place of academia. Her departure, stemming from tensions with pro-Israeli donors, underscores the challenges leaders face in navigating diverse perspectives and the influence of financial interests on institutional decisions. As individuals part of higher education, this situation prompts us to consider the broader implications of such conflicts, emphasizing the need to critically examine the intersection of institutional leadership, donor influence, and the pursuit of justice. It serves as a call for educators to advocate for an inclusive environment where principled leadership can flourish without compromising core values. So, Iona University, where is your voice? It would be more than wonderful to see Iona stand in solidarity with Palestine with tangible efforts. I am elated to share that I was accepted into the Black Diplomats Academy as a cohort 4 fellow by Developing Young Leaders of Tomorrow, Today (DYLOTT). DYLOTT is a black youth-focused leadership incubator organization, geared towards changing the socio-economic outlook for marginalized communities. 📌 It is an utmost privilege to be selected as one of the 36 Black changemakers out of a competitive pool of 1000 + candidates ✨ 📌 With the BDA program, I am given the opportunity to meet and work with like-minded Black intellects across the globe who are equally passionate about diplomacy, global and public policies and socio economic issues faced by people of African Descent within the global realm. For the next 10 months, I will: ✅ Engage in meaningful discussions with global policy leaders ✅ Hone my diplomacy/advocacy skills ✅ Craft a research paper around global/public policies and socio economic issues, which will be presented at the Black Diplomacy Global Summit. ➕ much more! Moreover, I am mostly looking forward to being guided by the knowledge, expertise and exceptional leadership of Candies Kotchapaw Angelica J. and Danisha D.. It will definitely be an experience that I will forever cherish! In retrospect, being apart of this fellowship is truly a privilege and I am grateful for this opportunity! I look forward to challenging myself as well as delving into the realm of diplomacy, so that I can make meaningful changes within my community 🙌🏾. #Diplomacy #UNSDGS #GlobalPolicy #Blackempowerment
