The 2024 James Beard award winners have been announced and The Mile High City has won big! Denver-based Id Est Hospitality Group founders Kelly and Erika Whitaker took home a huge honor: Outstanding Restaurateur. The Id Est group also owns two of Denver's three Michelin One Star restaurants: Bruto and The Wolf's Tailor. From Tires to Restaurants: The Brilliant Michelin Star Idea ⭐ Did you know the prestigious Michelin-starred restaurant rating started with a tire company? 🤔 In 1889, brothers André and Édouard Michelin founded the Michelin tire company in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Fast forward to the early 1900s, they created the Michelin Guide as a clever promotional tool to boost driving and tire sales. Initially, it was all about maps, hotels, mechanics, and gas stations. But in 1926, things took a delicious turn. The Michelin brothers sent anonymous inspectors to review restaurants. Their mission? To award stars based on the quality of ingredients, mastery of cooking techniques, chef's personality, value, consistency, and overall dining experience. ⭐ One star meant "worth a stop." ⭐⭐ Two stars signified "worth a detour." ⭐⭐⭐ Three stars indicated "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey." Today, the Michelin Guide is a culinary bible, covering over 40,000 establishments worldwide. Earning a Michelin star has become the ultimate accolade for chefs and restaurateurs. Everyone contributes to preparing and maintaining the perfect environment for guests to experience the product or resort, from the cleaner to the GM. As Rory Sutherland often reminds us, the Michelin-starred chef may use the most expensive ingredients to prepare an exquisite meal, but if the restaurant smells of sewer, the person who can create the most value for that restaurant in that situation is the guy cleaning the floor and the toilets—not the glorious chef. #teamwork #everyonematters #valuecreation #resortoperations
