It was an honor and pleasure to work on these audits for LEAF Global Arts Retreat and the 2023 Colorado Creative Industries Summit. The reason I love doing this work with Majestic Collaborations is the juicey overlaps of The of Mass Gatherings four pillars: accessibility, safety, sustainability and community engagement. These overlaps help frame how I look at the overarching questions for these events: who are you accessible to, what is working and what are the next possible steps to make your event more accessible, user friendly, and inclusive. In my mind, accessibility and community engagement go hand in hand, making your events more accessible means you can engage more people in your community. Accessibility and safety go hand-in-hand as well, your event can not be truly safe, unless it is safe fore everyone. So your safety plans need to address how to keep people with mobility, hearing, vision and cognitive disabilities safe. I like to say, build your safety plan around the specific needs of people with disabilities and your plan is 80% done. Accessibility and sustainability...there are many ways to think about this. One is just what do we need to sustain the people who come to our events and work at our events? Another, how do we build this temporary city (what festivals are) that allows for easy, safe and engaged navigation that respects the land the events is on. And then just how do we build in accessibility and sustainability from the beginning, from the first time we go to make a plan for this year's event, instead of either ever being an after thought? Memorial Day: Relevant for a reason... You'll see it start shortly. Brands honoring the fallen by posting that they will be closed Monday. We developed and ran this campaign for a client to prove that there was an alternative. The results were outstanding and it was an incredible privilege to be a part of so many families telling their stories about a lost love one. Tactical: A two-phase Memorial Day campaign to collect and share memories of loved ones who left from Union Station to serve our country. Part One: An initial social media marketing campaign to gather the memories and development of a website landing page to display them. Part Two: Creation of a video animation to highlight sample memories and drive traffic to the website landing page (of all Memorial Day memories gathered), media advisory disseminated to select local media to increase awareness, and a second social ,media marketing campaign to promote the memories over the Memorial Day weekend. Campaign Data: Reached over 83k individuals and generated 190k impressions Almost 59k people engaged with the campaign, 234 of them shared it with their own audience Tone: 3,084 reactions, 98.9% Positive Data: 190,507 Impressions 83,248+ Reach 58,726 Engagements 655 Link Clicks 234 Post Shares 89 Comments 5 New Followers/Likers Landing Page: (view here) 427 views between 5/22 to 5/25; average time on page was 1 minute and 19 seconds https://lnkd.in/euAFX2dM

It's Friday, so let's talk about music...and politics. With fewer than 90 days until the U.S. presidential election, the campaigning is growing more intense, and will likely continue to do so. And with the campaign heating up, cease and desist letters from musicians who don't want to appear associated with a particular candidate are inevitable. Here's how it works. Performing rights organizations, such as ASCAP and BMI, represent songwriters and their music publishers who own copyrights in their songs. They give the performing rights organizations the right to license the public performance of their songs. Typically these licenses go to restaurants, hotels, stadiums, arenas and the like, covering whoever appears at those venues. For the past few elections, the performing rights organizations have been requiring the campaigns to obtain a separate license to use music at campaign events. If an artist does not want their song used by a particular campaign, the notify the performing rights organization, and they remove it from the license. In the past week, Celine Dion and the estate of Issac Hayes have objected to the Trump campaign's use of their songs. After a video of Celine Dion performing “My Heart Will Go On” was shown at Trump’s rally in Bozeman, Montana, Dion expressed her disapproval in a statement indicating that the use was unauthorized (this use also showed Dion, raising possible right of publicity claims). It also begs the question of why a campaign would want to use a song associated with a sinking ship and infamous nautical disaster. See https://lnkd.in/euiP5r_P for more. The Hayes estate has demanded that the Trump campaign stop using the song "Hold On, I'm Coming" at rallies, and has demanded $3 million in licensing fees. The estate's letter to the Trump campaign claimed the fee was very discounted in view of the 134 times the campaign used the song.in the past 2 years. MAY-DAY SHOULD BE RENAMED “THE FOOLS’ DAY” ================================= Were Sri Lanka not serious in celebrating the April fool’s a good idea would be to bring it forward by one month to the May Day. This is truly the FOOLS’ DAY. This is the day masses sell their souls for a lunch packet and more than that, a 250 ml of arrack. These are the lesser fools. The bigger fools don’t even get that and sell their time and labor for no return. They leave the rallies by crowded trains while their leaders jump to the luxury vehicles. It is interesting how every year the masses takes the same bait. They believe a day their leaders building the socialist utopia for them. Their leaders are smart. They know the followers won’t leave them. This is their annual pill of satisfaction. That is why octogenarian and nonagenarian left leaders too walk along the May-Day processions of their parties, with the aid of their walking sticks, waiving at the crowds. They may be saving one red shirt to wear for the day. The real laborers have no celebrations on this day. Many of them will be working on the day attending essential services. My salutes go to them, not to the fools who would rally dirty the Colombo roads tomorrow. They are only political party henchmen. I think this cartoon by awantha artigala tells it all.
