PT2. Why your event matters to the community you select. Take a minute to tune in to this breakdown by Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visit Miami. The impact of meetings, events, and bleisure tourism runs deep throughout the communities that host them. To the naked eye, it may seem just another large convention or tourist heading out on a cruise; but in truth, the importance of the opportunities created cannot be entirely quantified. As a business association, we were concerned from the initial discussions around the Brynderwyns being closed - and the lack of engagement with the people this is so closely going to affect. We called a meeting, with everyone at the table we could think of to pull together a hive mind & come up with not just solutions, as we were well aware the solution is the road needs fixing, but to point out the constant issues we fight with communication, within our region & through the country. Post this meeting, a steering group was formed, which we as an association were not invited to be a part of - however we were informed all the right people were there & that communication was a priority. A survey was sent out to the region, asking about two dates for closure & the support around each. We now find that the option selected by Waka Kotahi, is some strange hybrid - where by they it seems they think we will be grateful for a random few days in the middle where the road will be open to allow traffic movement over Easter. Still, all we know about the alternative routes are that “crews are working to prepare”. In ten weeks this work is now confirmed to start. I hope we hear more ASAP about how Northland Businesses & Tourism will be supported through this time and this is widely communicated to ensure we as a region do not suffer from the mismanagement & underinvestment in our region.

What springs to mind when you think of working collaboratively? Is it headaches and heartaches? Or is it a chance to work in a more strategic fashion for the greater good? It should be the latter. It had been a while since I had been in Belleek Pottery. Last week I had the opportunity to go there and have a tour, whilst also working on a tourism cluster project. The conversations that already started to flow. The links that people made. The knowledge people share. These are all positives. And it has only just started. #tourismdevelopment #tourismclusters #clustering
Collaboration - why bother? Collaboration can be exceptionally exciting and beneficial for your business. It can mean additional resources, varying knowledge, the opportunity to explore new business models, a great sounding board. This can be very important when you look at the wider picture. For example tourism is the prime instance where working as part of a team for the benefit of wider area can be hugely beneficial. On Tuesday last week we facilitated a tourism cluster meeting for Fermanagh & Omagh District Council, at the world renowned Belleek Pottery. Plus you get little perks like tours around Belleek Pottery. #tourismmarketing #tourismclusters #clusterdevelopment

If you are considering developing a tourism experience, or want to find out what it is and what it can mean for your business, then sign up for this webinar. It will change everything!
Are you familiar with Destination Canada's Destination Dialogue's virtual events? This year, I am delighted to share that we are collaborating with Destination Canada to offer a unique Webinar on September 12, entitled "Rethinking Experience Development in Canada's Destinations". I am especially delighted to be working not only with the Destination Dialogues team at Destination Canada, but will also be hosting and facilitating two remarkable Canadians in this webinar, who have created legendary and award-winning regenerative visitor experiences. The webinar, open across the country, will involve a short keynote address by myself including a couple of case studies about experience development, and then a panel discussion with our two experience hosts - Lourdes Still, from Masagana Flower Farm in south-eastern Manitoba; and Dave Schonberger, with Ottercreek Woodworks in southern Ontario. They are passionate hosts, whose experiences are in-market and selling. They will share lessons learned, insights and answer questions. I hope that you can join us on September 12, 8:30 AM PDT/11:30 EDT. https://lnkd.in/eCqhztz5
