As the weather gets colder, it’s crucial to keep our elderly loved ones and neighbours safe and warm. Here are some of our top tips to help any isolated, vulnerable person stay warm during the chilly winter months: - Layer up comfortably - Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight clothes in layers. It’s easier to adjust your temperature by adding or removing layers when needed. - Warm foods and drinks - Regularly consume warm foods and soups, along with hot drinks like cocoa or tea, to keep your body temperature warm from the inside out. - Seal the drafts - Check doors and windows for drafts and seal them up. Even a rolled-up towel at the base of a door can make a big difference in keeping the warmth inside. - Stay active – Keep them moving throughout the day, even if it's just doing some gentle stretching or walking around the house. Activity helps to boost circulation and body warmth. If you’re worried about a loved one staying warm and healthy through the winter, a regular visit from a home carer can help.
