The South Western Kentucky region enjoyed another stellar year for tourism and visitor spending with Christian County leading the way as the state's #9 most visited county based on tourism receipts. With nearly $240M in tourism spending, Christian County's tourism economy helped fuel record receipts for hotels, restaurants, and small businesses that serve visitors and tourists. "We applaud the Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission, Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Oak Grove Tourism Commission, as well as our regional partners, for their hard work establishing the entire SWK region as a great place to visit, recreate, and relax. From family festivals to fun at the lake, our region has your recreation and relaxation needs covered," stated Carter Hendricks, SWK EDC. Incredible news about our No. 1 industry — tourism spending has increased four out of the last five years in Somerset-Pulaski County. And we are excited to join Lake Cumberland Tourism and See Somerset Tourism in announcing that we achieved an astounding $150.9 million in 2023, another record! “These numbers don’t happen by accident and are proof that the hard work our tourism professionals are putting in is paying off. It all starts with the visit. A tourism leader in Irving, Texas once explained it this way in a speech: ‘If you build a place where people want to visit, you’ll build a place where people want to live. If you build a place where people want to live, you’ll build a place where people want to work. If you build a place where people want to work, you’ll build a place where business wants to be. And, if you build a place where business wants to be, we’ll be back to building a place where people want to visit.’ This is the cycle we are building in Somerset-Pulaski County. A place everyone wants to be. And it is working.” ~ SPEDA President and CEO Chris Girdler https://lnkd.in/gGrUfjPx #somersetleads #PulaskiProud #seelc #seemyset #TheCapitalofLakeCumberland

Dublin is one of our favourite cities to plan itineraries for! From its historic roots as a Viking settlement to its vibrant cultural scene, Dublin offers a lavish retreat for discerning travellers. Here are 10 fun facts about Dublin: 1. Dublin's name originates from the Irish word "Dubh Linn," meaning "black pool," referring to a dark tidal pool where the River Poddle entered the River Liffey. 2. The Ha'penny Bridge, one of Dublin's most iconic landmarks, earned its name because pedestrians used to pay a toll of half a penny to cross it when it was first built in 1816. 3. Dublin is home to the world's first known pub, the Brazen Head, which has been serving patrons since 1198. 4. Dublin's Phoenix Park is one of the largest enclosed urban parks in Europe, even larger than Central Park in New York City. 5.The Guinness Storehouse, Ireland's most visited tourist attraction, offers visitors a chance to learn about the history of Guinness and enjoy panoramic views of Dublin from its Gravity Bar. Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Visitors spent $4.1 million per day in Dane County. City of Madison, WI and Dane County saw its “Direct Visitor Spending” reach, for the first time ever, $1.5 billion in 2023, driven by a record 9.9% growth in spending. How do we determine these numbers? Each year, we work with an organization called Tourism Economics’ to gather the annual statewide tourism spending and outcome report. This year it also showed our county adding nearly 900 jobs to the hospitality industry for a 4.8% growth. “Last year’s record visitor spending shows people from all over the country are choosing Madison as a high-priority destination,” said Destination Madison President & CEO Ellie Westman Chin. “The robust meetings, events and sports audiences were complemented by droves of leisure visitors, giving Dane County a well-rounded visitor profile that we will build upon in 2024 and beyond.” Want to know more about Destination Madison’s work and role to drive the tourism economy locally? Amsterdam isn't that big, less than a million people live there. It gets 20,000,000 Tourists a year. To put that in context, Edinburgh has half this population but only gets 4,000,000 Tourists. In Scotland, we're ALREADY used to seeing negative articles about how packed the City is, particularly in Summer. Imagine if this number DOUBLED? When you read articles like this, highlighting nearby European Cities that aren't really that sunny and don't have The World's Biggest Arts Festival, A Castle in the main street and a Drink named after the Country, you can begin to see the problems that WILL, definitely arise, in Scotland. If you do a comparison, it wouldn't be that surprising if Edinburgh got 10,000,000 Tourists, in the near future. Like The Canary Islands, Venice and lots of other places, Tourism is proving to be problematic. It's pretty obvious this will be THE most important Challenge AND Opportunity, for Scotland. We have to throw LOTS of resources at it. #ScotlandIsNow

Having been to Wales for the first time in April, I have no problem championing its many natural and cultural heritage attractions. That being said, as a less visited destination compared to other parts of the UK, it appears to be declining in encouraging tourists to come and visit. Wales has everything that the tourism industry loves to promote – the great outdoors, photogenic landscapes, sandy beaches, a proud indigenous language and history, great food and a handful of interesting cities – including one, Wrexham, that has its own Disney+ TV series thanks to some famous Hollywood football fans. Yet, according to International Passenger Survey (IPS) data released by Visit Britain, there were 33 per cent fewer inbound visitors to Wales in 2022 than 2019. The amount international visitors spent also dropped by 24 per cent, from £515 million in 2019 to £391 million in 2022. COVID-19 may have been a factor, but there are other considerations impacting visitation. #wales #travelandtourism #decline #destination #attraction nicki page Pippa Pemberton Alan MacKelworth Beca Vaughan James Parkin Dr Emmet M.
