🎓✨Faculty of Small Liberal Arts Colleges Across All Disciplines are uniquely positioned to make a profound impact on the futures of our graduate students, providing them with the guidance and opportunities to excel in their chosen fields. Here’s how we can make a difference: Broaden Awareness: Actively seek out and share information about grants and awards accessible to graduates from various disciplines, not just those traditionally associated with our fields of expertise. Mentorship Matters: Offer personalized mentorship to students, guiding them through the application process, from proposal writing to presentation skills. Cross-Disciplinary Support: Collaborate with colleagues from different departments to create a supportive ecosystem for all students, ensuring they have the resources and encouragement needed to pursue such opportunities. By engaging intentionally with our students, we emphasize the value of interdisciplinary research and our vital role in our student's academic and professional journeys and in nurturing the next generation of scholars. One opportunity for encouraging young scholars to share their research is the Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology, which celebrates remarkable achievements in neuroscience by young researchers. College educators and mentors can foster a culture of research excellence and ambition. By encouraging and supporting our students to apply for such grants, we open doors to unparalleled opportunities for professional growth and recognition in their fields. 🎓 As we step into the beginning of 2024, I'm thrilled to share a significant milestone in my academic journey – successfully defending my PhD thesis at Karolinska Institutet in October 2023. https://lnkd.in/dSe24PAx https://lnkd.in/dfMBgsfw 🌟 My deepest thanks to my main supervisor, Professor Christer Betsholtz. Finding the right words is a challenge, but his unwavering support and guidance, without which I would have never completed my PhD, make concluding this chapter under his mentorship an honor. Transitioning from the challenges I faced to the paradise of working with him is beyond words. I eagerly look forward to the exciting adventures and meaningful research that await under his guidance. Special appreciation to Mattias Svensson, the head of PhD studies at MedH, and my co-supervisors Ákos Végvári, and Prof. Lars Lund, as well as all my colleagues and friends. Special thanks also to AstraZeneca for the invaluable support of my PhD, especially Kenny Hansson. Acknowledging my opponent, Prof. Claes Gustafsson, for insightful discussions during my defense, and my thesis reviewers Professors Maria Falkenberg and Tomas Ekström, along with all committee members Andreas Lennartsson, Hong Qian, and Professor Anders Virtanen for their constructive inputs, as well as Eike-Benjamin Braune for professionally chairing my defense. 🙅♂️ Reflecting on this 9-YEAR journey brings a mix of emotions. The path was challenging, marked by tough decisions, especially when I chose to take a stand against suspected data fabrications and falsifications in Ralph Knöll's lab at Karolinska.– a choice that led to a chapter of resilience against pressure, bullying, and blackmail, targeting not only me but also those who stood by my side. However, I'll never regret this choice, and I'll never compromise my values, morals, and ethics, regardless of the pressures I face. Heartfelt thanks to all who supported me! Onwards and upwards! Read my following posts where I'll share more about the unique experiences faced against scientific misconduct, and also address circulating misinformation. Here's to new beginnings and a year filled with discovery and growth! 🚀🎓🙌 #PhD #DefenceDay #AcademicJourney #ScientificIntegrity #NeverGiveUp

“The AGSE Industry PhD program has allowed me to develop both my scientific and professional networks and explore my career options post-PhD.”— Claire Bridges, working with Synedgen, Inc. and the UNSW Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering to repair blood vessels affected by diabetes. The Industry PhD from the Australian Graduate School of Engineering at UNSW gives you industry-ready skills and professional networks, gearing you for success in your next industry or academic role. Embarking on a research degree is fundamentally different to any other degree. As an engineering researcher, you are on a single-minded mission to shift the boundaries of science and technology in society. Simultaneously, this gives you a platform to deep-dive into your own natural curiosity by holding a magnifying glass up to the world around you. Every hypothesis starts with a question: what are you curious about? Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eak_eMkG

🎉 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗡𝗶𝗲𝗵𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗠𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 and contribution to 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲! I am very proud of Victoria S. Niehues, who has successfully completed her pre-defense for the Tinbergen Institute's MPhil with flying colors! 🌟 In her thesis, Victoria combines high academic rigor with great data to help solve a highly practical and important issue for the #pharmaceuticalindustry: How to learn and continuously improve new drug launches (#launchexcellence). Victoria's contribution is twofold. First, she offers a rigorous, concise and practical definition of ‘launch excellence’, that promises much-needed clarification and consistency for the practice. Second, she proposes a sophisticated econometric model that addresses a long-standing challenge: How can we properly track and learn from past launch performances (and to do so, she analyzed hundreds of new drug launches in the last years in the US). We are excited that Victoria will continue her promising research with us at Marketing Science @ESE, further enriching her thesis during her PhD dissertation. Special thanks to her co-supervisor Vardit Landsman, and to the pre-defense committee (Francesca Sotgiu, Vardit Landsman, and Nuno Almeida Camacho). Let's celebrate this milestone and look forward to more impactful research! 🚀 #PharmaceuticalMarketingScience #LaunchExcellence #MarketingScience #ESE

With numerous successful life saving experiences and painstakingly failed lessons of 9 years in health care system, 15 years of investment banking, over 10 years of venture investment, let’s grow blitzscalingly.
Technology changes life and lifestyle.
As a Phd student in 2017, Martina Miotto, PhD first discovered the ability to gently detach adherent cells from surfaces. CellRev's technology has developed a lot since those early days, but Martina's vision of seeing scientific discoveries applied to make a real world impact remains unchanged. "In 2017, I was a student solving my own technical challenge." "In 2024, I am immensely proud to be able to help others solve their own technical challenges with CellRev solutions. Seeing Livit ACE launch fills me with great pride and I have nothing but gratitude for all of those who have played a role in making my dream a reality." Martina now leads our innovation strategy with further solutions in the pipeline to solve aggregation, clumping, clogging, and cell detachment challenges in cell culture processes. Met Prof. (Dr.) Yong Wang from Binghamton University, New York who has come to the same University as me to deliver talks to students. Sir Stan Whittingham, Nobel laureate for Chemistry in 2019 for contributions to Li-Ion battery technology works at the same University as Dr. Wang. University had sent a common car to pick both of us from the airport. During the long 1 and half hour drive from the airport to the University, I was curious to know what sets Nobel laureates apart from others. Below are few points from Dr. Wang which resonate: 1. They spend their lifetime making contributions to a specific area of high importance to humanity. Dr. Whittingham has been contributing to Li-Ion battery technology for last almost 50 years! 2. They stay patient, has high perservarence in face of setbacks over long period of time. 3. They are always open to learn even from fresh graduates. They make time to interact even when they are super busy. 4. They stay humble in spite of their huge success in their field. 5. Lastly, they live long enough to get the prize 🙂. Hope we can imbibe some of these qualities in us.
