🌏 The Grandeur of One Time Zone for India 🇮🇳 Did you know that India, a nation stretching over 2,933 km from Arunachal Pradesh in the east to Gujarat in the west, operates under a single time zone—Indian Standard Time (IST)? With such vast geographical diversity, the easternmost regions experience sunrise and sunset nearly two hours earlier than the westernmost parts. Scientifically, India could have adopted two separate time zones to account for this difference. However, the decision to maintain one unified time zone symbolizes much more than convenience—it reflects India’s unity in diversity. While this single time zone simplifies governance, communication, and economic operations, it also highlights the grandeur of a country that harmonizes its 1.4 billion voices across such a vast expanse. Celebrating India’s Unbelievable Journey Since Republic Day 1950 As India celebrates another Republic Day, it’s awe-inspiring to reflect on how far we’ve come since January 26, 1950. From a nation of 361 million people, grappling with poverty and food shortages, to a 1.4 billion-strong powerhouse, here are some highlights of this incredible transformation: • 🇮🇳 From 18% literacy to over 77%, with women leading change. • 💰 From a GDP of $21 billion to a $3.7 trillion economy, now the 5th largest in the world. • 🚀 From no space program to missions on the Moon (Chandrayaan-3) and Mars, becoming a global space leader. • ⚡ From 3% electrification to powering every corner of the country. • 🌾 From being a food-importing nation to feeding the world through the Green Revolution. • 🛡️ From reliance on borrowed military gear to becoming one of the world’s strongest armed forces. This Republic Day, let’s celebrate not just the milestones but also the resilience and spirit that made this journey possible. 🌟 Here’s to India – a land of infinite possibilities, boundless talent, and unwavering hope! Today, as India celebrates its 76th Republic Day, I am inspired by this year’s theme: Swarnim Bharat – Virasat aur Vikas. When we think of 'Virasat' (heritage), it’s easy to think of traditions, culture, and history. But at its heart, heritage is about the values that have guided us for thousands of years - values like loyalty, trust, faith, dedication, and humanity. These aren’t just ideals, they are the threads that bind us as individuals and as a nation. In our work, we strive to honour these values every day. Integrity and Value are the principles that ground us. While profits may sustain a business, it’s the trust we earn and the value we create that leave a lasting legacy. On the path of 'Vikas' (progress), the horizon looks brighter than ever. By 2026, India is set to become the world’s third-largest consumer market - a testament to the strength of our people, our innovation, and our resilience. As we celebrate today, let’s hold onto our heritage while embracing the limitless possibilities of our future. Wishing everyone a very Happy Republic Day! The stupidity is in the basic assumption - that we have a demographic dividend. Unfortunately, it is not true because of two issues - 1. Approximately 40% of children under 5 are stunted (compared to less than 2% in Europe). This means adults with stunted brains - can’t be educated beyond a point and can’t learn sophisticated skills and be economically productive 2. Amongst the lowest rates of female labour participation in the world. This also damages the demographic dividend story We will grow fast and become more prosperous - no doubt about that. But that’s because we have a low base - low per capita income and low per capita GDP. The growth ceiling caused by the two issues I mentioned is unavoidable unless we take urgent and extreme measures to fix them! To prosper and realise our potential, we must have high-quality, productive human capital! Every year we lose 10 million potentially productive people to stunting (40% of annual births). Children who are stunted can’t be treated or cured - once they are past 2-3 years of age, the damage is permanent and lifelong. The stunted brains can’t be repaired. And if our women don’t participate in the labour force, we have a second big issue that confronts the Indian growth story.

🌍 **What Comes to Mind When You Think of India?** India, a land of diversity and dynamism, evokes a myriad of images and perceptions worldwide. From its ancient civilization to its modern achievements, India captivates hearts and minds across the globe. For me, India embodies resilience, innovation, and cultural richness. It's a tapestry woven with countless threads of tradition, yet constantly evolving to embrace the future. From the majestic Himalayas to the sun-kissed beaches of Goa, from the bustling streets of Mumbai to the serene backwaters of Kerala, India offers a kaleidoscope of experiences. But beyond its breathtaking landscapes and iconic landmarks, India's true essence lies in its people. Warm, hospitable, and imbued with a spirit of unity in diversity, Indians exemplify the country's strength. Yet, India also grapples with challenges. Poverty, inequality, and infrastructure gaps remind us of the work yet to be done. However, amidst these challenges, India's resilience shines through, as it continues to march forward with determination and hope.
