Migraine Awareness Week is an important time to consider the impact of migraines on our working population. Research from The Migraine Trust suggests that this issue will only become more prevalent as our workforce ages, making it crucial for employers to prioritize health and wellbeing conversations. Let's work together to support those affected by migraines in the workplace!

The EMHA- European Migraine and Headache Alliance just launched the results of their survey on migraine stigma, revealing the corrosive impact it can have on migraine patients. The results shed light on how negative, dismissive or intolerant attitudes and behaviours towards people living with migraine can result in various forms of stigma, an additional burden to the emotional toll experienced by those living with the condition. Stigma in the workplace can have a detrimental impact on people living with migraine with many preferring to hide their condition rather than face scrutiny. A overwhelming 79% of people completing the survey said workplace stigma negatively impacts their careers. Employers have a responsibility to recognise and create a culture of understanding that translates across the company, which is why I’m proud that @Teva has been recognized as a migraine friendly workplace. It’s part of our commitment to our employees’ wellbeing and enabling our people to thrive inside and out of the workplace. I encourage more initiatives of this kind, that remove the burden of stigma so that people can feel comfortable and confident doing their jobs. Migraine can increase employee turnover and reduce overall work productivity by over half. People with migraine miss about 9 more days of work each year than those without migraine. Today is the annual World Day for Safety and Health at Work. We encourage advocacy groups to join with employers to support those working with migraine, cluster and other headache disorders. #worldsafetyday #safetyatwork https://lnkd.in/ey6ecRV5

Diversity gets talked about in the workplace. Why not migraine? We’re happy to talk about the things that make us who we are. Our backgrounds, beliefs and life experiences. But why not migraine? With 1 in 7 workers suffering from this debilitating disease, it’s time we started talking about how we create more awareness and understanding of migraine in the workplace(1). At Teva, we’ve engaged in a series of initiatives and pledged to make necessary adaptations to reduce work-place risk factors and mitigate the impact of migraine. We’re proud to have been awarded the Migraine Friendly Workplace stamp by the European Migraine & Headache Alliance. If you suffer from migraine or simply wish to show your support for migraine sufferers at work, find out how you can start the conversation or read more about becoming a Migraine Friendly Workplace at https://lnkd.in/dcFwHMNF Reference: 1.
