"...endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved," writes Charles Darwin in The Origin of Species. Just like Darwin and numerous other naturalists, we are also amazed by the beauty of nature and the organisms within it. To share this, we created Ecology Explained to talk about ecology in a fun and engaging way. Join us on our journey to explore things big and small, in rivers and deserts, and everything in between.

Fermented foods combine heritage expertise, local ecology, and careful co-creation: they are microscopic worlds brought into being through a combination of cultural tastes and local ecology. By exploring the genetic profiles and cultural logic behind these important foods, we take ethnobiology to the miniature scale and ask how we shape, and are shaped, by our environments. This recent study, born from a virtual workshop in 2021, proposes a paradigm shift in urban ecology. Does the economy exist alongside nature or does it fit within nature? Or is nature irrelevant to the economy? IMHO the economy exists within the environment, and is a subsidiary of it, just as humans are just one species within the flora and fauna that exist in nature. The first graphic shows the current paradigm...economy working alongside ecology. The second graphic illustrates what really is.
