One of the most frequently asked questions from my friends is, "Can you recommend a #doctor or #specialist to see what's wrong with my #health?" It's often difficult for #patients to know which doctor is suitable for their specific concerns, leading to unintended "doctor shopping". Most patients don't intend to do this initially. While it's good that doctors are not allowed to advertise, it makes finding the right specialist challenging. How can patients know whom they should consult? Word of mouth is one way, but I can only suggest #clinics I know, which are limited and may not be the best fit for everyone. #Clinic staff are usually too busy to explain their clinics' and doctors' expertise to callers. Are bots smarter than docs? A JAMA study published April 1st, 2024 apparently found that the reasoning abilities of new-age chatbots (GPT-4) may outperform those of real-life physicians, where it came to simulated cases.
