For medium sized and larger organisations, a robust and thoroughly tested information security strategy is a "must-have". The NCSC advice is well worth a look. For individuals at home, this might look daunting, and there is the temptation to say "that's someone else's headache", but the same approach works just as well for day-to-day tech users: -Secure your devices with strong passcodes, passwords, or biometric locks (fingerprints or facial recognition are available on most tablets and phones). -Keep your device updated; whether it's Android, iOS, Windows, or Linux, make sure you apply the official updates to keep the latest vulnerabilities patched. -Keep some form of virus protection running and updated. -Use a password manager in combination with strong and unique passwords for all your online accounts. If possible, let your password manager generate strong passwords for you, and make the password manager account password as complex and strong as you can. -Don't reuse passwords! I know I said use unique password in the point above, but it bears repeating... If one website or service gets hacked, the password you've used will end up in a database or spreadsheet somewhere, and will be included in "password spray" attacks; these aren't some hacker in a dark room, wearing a hoodie and typing out password to try, they're automated attacks where a program runs and just works it's way through the password attack list at a rate of thousands of passwords a minute. Microsoft estimate that password spray attacks have a success rate of 1%, which doesn't sound terribly threatening, until you remember that they're attacking thousands of accounts at a time... Don't be in that 1%! Take a look at the videos our IT Security specialist, Andrew, has put together to show you how to follow some simple steps to securing your digital identities: https://lnkd.in/eG76ZfvY
