A special moment we have all been eagerly waiting for. The first contact with the water marks the beginning of a new chapter. In the coming period, we will step the mast and get her ready for the open seas during commissioning and sea trials. What makes Magic unique are her natural tones and appearance, both inside and out. The deckhouse has lots of windows, so when you’re in the saloon, it feels as if you’re in direct contact with the sea. The connection with the ocean is what makes Magic an extension of the sea. So Magic is not just a name, but a reflection of the very essence of nature itself. We are proud on her launch and look forward to the upcoming period.✨ #vittersshipyard #magic #sailling #sailingyacht #launch

Just a quick reminder as the Monaco Yacht Show is starting today and maybe that put you in the mood to finally make your dream come true and get yourself a yacht. Don’t let anybody else tell you how your dreams are supposed to look like. Or that they should look just like anybody else’s dreams. If what you have in mind looks different or outright alien, that’s cool. It’s your dream after all and we think that should be respected. You know what? Chances are it can be made reality, too. There are people in our industry who just love to think outside the box and who are happiest when you throw a real challenge at them. ’Tobiko’ is an ultra-light 40m SWATH that might not offer you the biggest volume you can put on the water. Or 4 guest rooms. Or a pool. It does, however, offer you a very stable platform (some say it’s impossible to get seasick aboard a SWATH) and a very unique way of being on the water. #christianleyk #coquinedesign #yachting #yachtdesign #professionaldreamer #mys #monacoyachtshow #designstudio #lifestyle #dreamyacht #dreamproject #dreamscometrue #yourdreams #yachtproject #SWATH #thinkdifferent

Help keep the Reaper sailing https://bit.ly/3ZuTRj2
Help keep the Reaper sailing...... A once common sight up and down the east coast of Scotland – as here in Wick Harbour around 1905. The Fifie sailing lugger grew out of earlier, local building traditions and, by the time the Museum’s Fifie ‘Reaper’ FR958 was built in 1902/3, had been perfected to take full account of the most advanced thinking in hull strength and speed, the latest in equipment and steam-powered winches and the finest modern materials for nets, buoys and canvas sails. The ‘Reaper’, once an ordinary working boat, is now an extraordinary exemplar of design and technology at the point at which sail gave way to steam power. Looking at this photograph of Fifies crowded in Wick harbour, it is sobering to think that of all the luggers that once thronged the harbours, only a handful now remain, of which the ‘Reaper’ is the largest still sailing with her traditional lug rig. We thought last week’s post of our SWATH concept ‘Tobiko’ was quite popular, so we thought we should do another one. Don’t let anybody else tell you how your dreams are supposed to look like. Sunk of Bayesian 56m Perini Navi Sailing Yacht I am extremely sad and close to the families of the victims of the sinking of the Bayesan, Perini Navi 56m. Investigations will establish the cause of the sinking and possible responsibility. However, as a superyacht outfit quality surveyor and consultant, since almost 30 years, a maniac and always insistent in the application of outfit yacht practice with Shipyards, Designers and Owners, I would like to point out how superficially the issues of interior decoration are often dealt with. Fitting out a luxury superyacht, which must guarantee not only comfort for her Owners, Guests and Crew, but also safety at sea, in whatever conditions she has been certified for, is not decorating the space of a well-established building on land. With reference to Bayesian, I have been struck by the statement "Rescuers had previously expressed the frustration that they were unable to enter the yacht through her decks, due to furniture blocking their path." One of the points on which I often have to insist, bordering on a battle of principle, is that all furniture, furnishing components, decorative elements on board, including loose furniture, must be properly sea-fastened, so that they do not move from where they were intended, in any sea conditions. And that the contents of the furniture must not be thrown out of lockers, cabinets, wardrobes due to inadequate fasteners (magnets or touch-latches instead of appropriate positive latches) and hinges of inadequate strength. Whether or not the furnishings were an impediment to the movement of Owners and Guests through the escape routes and emergency exits, I trust that this incident will jog the memory of all those involved in the yachting industry as to the safety features that must also be applied to the outfitting so that they are not an impediment to people saving their lives.

The making of the new Swift Trawler 54: CHAPTER 3 - A Fusion Hull In this third episode, Robert Chaffer and Bill Dixon introduce us to one of the many innovations aboard the Swift Trawler 54: the “Fusion” hull. The “Fusion” hull form created by Dixon Yacht Design provides improved sailing performance, excellent handling and great comfort. Bill Dixon goes into more detail about the advantages of this new state-of-the-art solution: “This boat has a narrower hull as it cuts through the water and then it widens widens out. So the actual bit that cuts through the water is narrower and deeper and rounded. So what happens when you go into a head? See that will be a softer motion into a head.” Discover this model: https://lnkd.in/exXrnGMV #SwiftTrawler54 #newboat #boatdesign

One of those things that we find really intriguing… a great challenge even! We know it’s probably just a matter of acceptance and getting used to things looking differently, but in general there’s the notion that a lot of the modern sail systems, such as wing sails, solid sail systems, etc, are not quite as pretty as the tradition ones (aka what we’re used to). So we keep sketching, searching for ideas that would combine the functionality with a more palatable look… #christianleyk #coquinedesign #designstudio #yachtdesign #professionaldreamer #sketching #doodle #sailingyachts #sails #wingsails #creativity #creativemind #lifestyle #superyachts #technology
