"Give your brain a quality alternative" This quote from Cal Newport's book "Deep Work" signifies the importance of having engaging and fulfilling activities during your leisure time. The idea is that if you have high-quality alternatives to mindlessly browsing the internet or social media, you'll be less likely to succumb to distraction when trying to focus on deep work. By replacing shallow activities with stimulating ones, you can: -Preserve your ability to concentrate: Deep work requires sustained focus. Engaging in leisure activities can help train your brain to resist distraction and maintain concentration for longer periods. -Experience a more fulfilling life: Newport suggests that quality alternatives can lead to a richer and more meaningful life, going beyond simply existing and filling free time with mindless entertainment. The book argues that cultivating a strong preference for deep work and high-quality leisure activities is a powerful combination for success in today's information. Are you bad at leisure? Do you try to experience the moment more than allowing the moment to create the experience? You're not alone. This was a fascinating discussion during one of our recent Wellbinars. If these quotes sound resonant for you then you're probably working too hard to not work toward an outcome. In other words, do you try too hard to do nothing? Here's what we heard... "I struggle to disconnect from work and my other responsibilities even when engaging in leisure activities." "I feel anxious or stressed when I have free time as if I should be doing something more productive with it." What makes it hard for you to truly disconnect during your limited leisure time? Share your thoughts into one of the greatest modern-day challenges; the ability to truly enjoy that rare province of downtime.

Dynamic innovator & strategic thinker, who articulates mission and propels growth. Personal coach, retreat leader, consultant & speaker I enjoy developing environments for people to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.
How are you going to have holy leisure today? Working hard is good, and virtuous. Work builds income, strength, and gives us an opportunity to be “missional”. The downfall of work is when it defines us, becomes our identity, consumes us and prevents our leisure. John Mark Comer wrote a great book called the “ruthless elimination of hurry”. He dives into the need to slow down and give dignity and worth to all parts of life especially leisure. Many of us find identity and self worth centered around busyness, productivity, and knocking out tasks. While those things are great, we can’t lose site of the importance of rest. Have some fun today! There’s a lot on your “to do” list, but do something different! Find something that will make you laugh till you cry! Get some exercise and spend some time with people that can love you well. More importantly, do it with the Lord and have no regret in putting the never ending list aside for the day. It might just be cooking your favorite meal, reading a good book, or taking an extra long shower, but find something that brings you joy today.

Congratulations! You found time to participate in some way in "Trick or Treat" tonight, right? You made it a priority, right?...if you missed it, you missed some joy moments... I am sure you know this, but on average, Americans have over five (5) hours of leisure time each day. So, some of you have more and some have less. Are you a "more", or a "less" in this area? The number one reason some have more? They don't commit to that extra thing or two that they really didn't have time for and sometimes end up cancelling anyway. They VALUE their leisure time, and generally others respect that...why don't you VALUE your time? #drivenchangetodayTM #DCT360changesystemTM #masteryourtime #masteryourmind #masteryourlife
