A few months ago, I had the privilege of collaborating with the talented teams at Meptik and The AV Crew , VP🧢 /VAD👒 /VFX🎩 supervising two incredible spots directed by Andy Vallentine and shot by the brilliant Oren Soffer for the Veterans Affairs. These projects showcased the seamless fusion of artistry and cutting-edge technology, with one spot filmed entirely at XR Stage and the other on location. The LED volume shoot was a standout example of the power of In-Camera Visual Effects (ICVFX) and virtual production. From pre-production to wrap, it was a true collaborative effort. We had just three weeks to design and create five photorealistic virtual environments that could perform dynamically at 30fps on the wall – no pixels were baked in the process. This gave us incredible flexibility for lighting, set dressing, and set orientation, which was crucial for keeping the creative vision intact. The team embraced the technology fully, with a clear understanding of every shot long before stepping on set. And the results? We finished the shoot five hours ahead of schedule, hitting every shot we set out to capture and, may I say, under budget on the VP side – a testament to the efficiency and precision of the entire crew. Except for the practical bedroom set (minus the window exterior) and some minor cleanup and transition edits, what you see is 100% true ICVFX – exactly as it appeared on camera. This project is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and collaboration of everyone involved. A huge thank you to Julianna Mercado , Carlos Perez, Joss Abaco, and Gemma Campbell for being absolute rockstars, and to Andrew Amato for your vision in assembling such a talented team. This project should serve as a blueprint for how to execute Virtual Production flawlessly. More to come, including the second spot with the great work by NEXODUS. "Genie", one of Voxon Photonic’s 3D Unity applications, is an interactive Volumetric Avatar. Genie is visible from 360 degrees, and from the opposite side, you even get to see the famous "hollow mask illusion", described by Wikipedia as a " when the bias of seeing faces as convex is so strong it counters competing monocular depth cues"...
