Here's why it matters: When a #nurse assumes care of patients and takes on additional assignments during another #nurses break this is not just a workflow challenge; it's a risk to #patientsafety and legal liability to the nurse and the organization. As stated by a lawyer: "Knowingly and willing taking on an unsafe assignment is the definition of medical malpractice." I've witnessed firsthand how taking on an unsafe assignment even when relieving another nurse for a break compromises response times and exposes both nurses and facilities to potential failures to respond - aka bad outcomes and litigation. Under rules and regulations and codes of ethics, it's the duty and responsibility of all nurses to provide a safe environment for all patients and I am here to remind all #nurses that nothing supersedes the professional license of a provider ever! What Alex has created is revolutionary! It's not just about providing breaks; it's about ensuring continuity of care and mitigating risks - a gift to any organization. When there's a relief #nurse, work continues seamlessly, preventing delays and potential legal repercussions to the nurse and the organization. As a nurse with 23 years of critical care experience and former investigator for a board as well as a civil and administrative expert, I've seen the consequences of inadequate staffing and lack of breaks cost patients their lives and nurses their licenses. Alex's solution isn't just a win for nurses—it's a win for organizations. It saves thousands of dollars in legal fees and fines from governing bodies, improves #nurse satisfaction and retention, and, most importantly, enhances #patientcare and safety. They encourage resilience, emphasizing that challenges are opportunities for growth. I cannot think of a better 30 minutes to learn about XR in nursing education than Dr. Cait Yeager on #ExploreXR. She is incredibly succinct and entertaining as she summarizes use of XR at Ursuline College. We get asked many questions by customers and prospects alike: ❓How do we use XR in our curriculum? ❓What is the value relative to traditional, analog methods? ❓How do students react? ❓What is the value of MR vs VR? ❓Does XR scale? ❓Is XR economically advantageous? Dr. Yeager answers all of these and more! She and her colleagues have done an incredible job of implementing XR that we can all learn from. Highly suggest you give it a listen.

This is an interesting article, and certainly one where we shouldn't be so quick to devalue the the value of #NPs and paint them with a broad brush because of an (undoubtedly) tragic story. #AsANurse, it's hard to discredit an entire line of professionals based on this case, however, I do recognize that there exists a need to bring more NPs into the field. IMHO (and unlike PA-Cs), NP education should be an extension of foundational nursing practice for advanced responsibilities. Admitting non-nursing, bachelor's degree persons for a nursing position in an accelerated factor might need another look. However, what this article fails to do is speak to the oversight required for this NP in the ER, in a state that has had some questionable school-record, pass-rates and diploma mills in the past. Also, the author failed to mention the other parties involved who permitted the discharge home. Let's not cancel a much-needed healthcare practitioner and resource without examining the leading conditions. The truth of the matter is that the need for nurses, nurse professionals, nurse educators, and nurse practitioners - is real and compounded by a multitude of obstacles, barriers, and reasons on its own. What we CAN take away from this is the understanding that - the need to provide enough opportunities and skilled nurses (workers) remains a challenge, and balancing all these things is real. #NursePractitioner #Nurses #Nurse Kelly Ayala, DNP, APRN, RN Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL
