VIVUS is proud to partner with the World Obesity Federation and help create awareness and action around treating this chronic disease on #WorldObesityDay (March 4, 2024). Obesity is not only a risk factor for other diseases, it is a disease in its own right. As noted by the World Obesity Foundation, obesity was added to the sixth International Classification of Diseases in 1948. Yet over seven decades later, this classification has not been fully accepted. Although an increasing number of organizations and countries now recognize obesity as a disease, many still do not, hampering attempts to address the pandemic. Review the Healthcare professionals statement in the Obesity Factsheets section of the #WorldObesityDay website at https://lnkd.in/ei5dnZdC VIVUS is committed to advancing treatment options for obesity and offering much-needed hope to patients globally. After long, I actually sat through this webinar i signed up for ie on Therapeutic advances for cardiometabolic diseases: a webinar from Cell Press and The Lancet. Refreshing to see scientific advances in the field of cardio metabolic and kidney diseases, obesity, etc which are increasingly becoming a cause of concern in countries like India. Not surprising though, most experts still emphasized that a lot has to do with lifestyle, environment, esp role of diet and physical activity. I liked the analogy used by one speaker who said better to start saving/investing early so that u r not only wealthy but even healthy in later life. :) #publichealthnutrition #leadership #evdiencebasedmedicine #NCDs #obesity Centre for Chronic Disease Control (CCDC) Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) https://lnkd.in/gDe4QzkB

World Obesity Day (WOD) takes place each year on 4 March. This is a united day of action to strengthen efforts to prevent and reduce obesity, and advocate for those living with obesity. Global estimates of those living with obesity in 2020 were 0.81 billion. In two short years, this has risen to over 1 billion people. It’s projected that by 2035 there will be over 1.53bn adults living with obesity globally, showing that global rates are growing faster than initially projected. If inaction continues, global prevalence will continue to grow, with dire consequences, knowing that obesity is a risk factor for up to 18 different types of cancers and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. #obesity #obesityawareness #obesitymedicine #obesitytreatment #longevitymedicine #longevitysolutions #agingwell #agingadults

Today is 4 March, World Obesity Day. Obesity is much more than a number on a scale! It is a complex, chronic and serious disease associated with more than 200 comorbidities. Turkey has almost 20 million PwO, the highest prevalence of obesity in Europe. So we have 20 million reasons to act together! As Novo Nordisk, we are launching the "It is Bigger than You" campaign to raise awareness about obesity in Turkey. On Friday 1 March, we held a press conference to introduce our campaign and the website where we provide facts and data about obesity. If you want to learn more about obesity, you can visit our campaign website, which is a library of information with videos and articles about obesity: buissandigindanbuyuk.com #worldobesityday #novonordisk #obesity #BuİşSandığındanBüyük
