OpenAI is allegedly teaming up with Apple 🤝 Two’s a party, three’s a crowd. OpenAI and Microsoft had a good thing going. They’d formed one of the biggest collaborations in the industry, exchanging Microsoft’s server access for OpenAI’s GPTs. Now, a rumored deal between OpenAI and Apple has left Microsoft wondering whether it got the short end of the stick. What can we expect? At its June 10 developers conference, Apple is expected to announce a partnership with OpenAI that would give Siri a long-overdue upgrade, while bringing ChatGPT-powered features to the latest version of iOS. Users can expect AI-powered photo editing, emojis, and messages. Siri will also allegedly be able to perform tasks and control features across various apps. But as Apple and OpenAI grow closer than ever, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is allegedly worried his company might get burned in the process. It supplies the servers that power OpenAI’s models, and it’s not clear whether they’ll buckle under the weight of millions of users. Not to mention, each of Apple’s new AI features put it in direct opposition with Microsoft, who had a head start integrating AI into Copilot and other products. #OpenAI Faces Financial Struggles Amidst Rapid Growth OpenAI, the force behind ChatGPT, is currently navigating a financial storm, despite a staggering 1,700% increase in monthly revenue since early 2023. Expected to hit $3.7 billion in revenue for 2024, the company still forecasts a $5 billion loss this year. Now, OpenAI is on the hunt to raise $6.5 to $7 billion, potentially valuing the startup at $150 billion. This ambitious fundraising is led by Thrive Capital, with big names like Microsoft and Nvidia already on board. [OpenAI did it!] Closed round at a $157B valuation I’ve been telling it since the launch of the OpenAI o1 models - the goal was to nail the $150ish billion valuation on the making for some months now. On Wednesday, OpenAI closed funding at a $157 billion valuation, as Microsoft, Nvidia, SoftBank joined the round. In a nutshell - OpenAI closed its long-awaited funding round, announcing that it raised $6.6 billion at a $157 billion post-money valuation. - Led by Thrive Capital, the round also had participation from Microsoft and Nvidia. - Earlier this year, OpenAI was valued at a reported $80 billion, up from $29 billion in 2023. What do real numbers look like? - OpenAI now has 250 million weekly active users on ChatGPT. - But there is no free meal in the universe. Running and developing those models is costly and, according to insiders, the company expects to lose about $5 billion this year. https://lnkd.in/eNGETYi3 In a blog post on their website, OpenAI said “We’ve raised $6.6B in new funding at a $157B post-money valuation to accelerate progress on our mission. The new funding will allow us to double down on our leadership in frontier AI research, increase compute capacity, and continue building tools that help people solve hard problems. We aim to make advanced intelligence a widely accessible resource.” On November 17, 2023 - OpenAI's board of directors ousted Sam Altman. Less than a year later, Sam has become the man who has it all - A $150 billion valuation - Support of Big Tech software (Microsoft) and the hardware (Nvidia) - Investors not afraid of pouring billions round after round (Thrive and SoftBank) - A revamped executive and board team Who’s afraid of Mr. Altman? *** I’m a technologist with 20+ years of experience in digital transformation that empowers leaders to harness the potential of AI for sustainable growth. Just in the past few years, we have witnessed an explosion in utilizing Gen AI tools. Initially, these tools were focused on creating and manipulating images, but lately, the attention has shifted to Large-Language Models (LLMs). Microsoft has recognized this transformative potential and has incorporated GPT4.0 into its products, demonstrating a commitment to harnessing AI to enhance user experiences and productivity. But how can a smaller business embrace these advancements and incorporate these innovative tools? Whether you want to set up an internal AI environment or explore ways to integrate AI into your existing workflows, Iuvo's sales team is prepared to make that happen. Stay tuned for parts 2 & 3, where we'll dive deeper into the integration of AI tools on Windows and Linux platforms for your benefit. #GenAI #AITools #LocalLLMs #iuvoTech

(Sherwood) This earnings season is revealing new details of big tech’s eye-popping spending on all things AI, and it shows no signs of slowing. But who is profiting from all this investment, and will it ever lead to profitable AI businesses? ▪️ Nvidia NVDA $106.73 (-1.77%) seems to be continuing to make a killing selling its AI computing hardware to all of the companies in the space. Unless there is a huge shift away from training ever larger AI models, its products are likely to be in demand. ▪️ Microsoft MSFT $406.74 (-2.07%) is making money selling OpenAI’s technology to customers via Azure, and they are planning long-term to meet demand. On Microsoft’s Q4 earnings call this week, executives said demand for AI computing from Azure boosted revenue, and signaled that large investments in data centers, and expensive GPUs will continue, laying out a 15 year timeline to build capacity, allowing them flexibility to respond to demand for AI services. ▪️ New reporting from The Information reveals that Microsoft is on track to make about $1 billion annually reselling OpenAI’s services (as part of their complicated partnership), but currently a quarter of that revenue is coming from one customer — TikTok, which could turn elsewhere for its AI computing. ▪️ Microsoft’s deal gives them access to OpenAI’s technology, and is rumored to include a hefty slice of their OpenAI profits until their investment is recouped. ▪️ Speaking of OpenAI, the company makes money selling Plus, Team, and Enterprise tiers of ChatGPT subscriptions, and by charging developers access to its API, which is estimated to generate several billion dollars per year. But OpenAI’s business depends upon expensive hardware, high energy costs and has to bankroll some of the highest paid roles in tech. #ai #artificialintelligence #investment #ChatGPT #Nicrosoft #Nvidia #OpenAI #hardware #energycost #profit #technology #tech https://lnkd.in/e3cd7Cp4

Remember Sam Altman’s little blue backpack? Considering that so many large companies are making deals with #OpenAI, what if it’s too late to shut his experiment down? #Adobe uses OpenAI and now so does #Apple. Who else? Well, there’s #Microsoft, #Salesforce, #Bain, #Buzzfeed, #Shutterstock, #Bing, #Duolingo, #Slack, #BusinessInsider, #Snapchat, #CocaCola, #Shopify, #Vox, #NewYorkTimes, #Reddit, #TheAtlantic, and a few others… more that a few. Several. Every form of #software in the #business arena instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its customers, but AI does not. It moves to a company and multiplies until every #data resource is consumed. The only way #AI can survive is to spread to another company. There is another form of software in the market that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? #Malware. :: I don’t know everything, but from what I’ve seen in recent years, bubbles tend to form in highly concentrated areas. Founders and Creatives aren’t talking about the potential of an AI bubble, but Foresight Specialists are. Question: Are these companies risking too much exposure to OpenAI? What if their #customers and #consumers continue to lose #trust and reject a #service they never wanted? AI is useful, but did we ask for #GenerativeAI? Companies recognize that ads and Third-Party cookies are less effective today, so perhaps they have chosen to upgrade by using AI as a First-Party data collection tool instead. I do not make predictions. My job is to understand the implications of historical events, and we have reached an infection, I mean inflection point. The announcement of Apple’s partnership with OpenAI may have been an earthquake out at sea, and now the tide is getting lower with each passing day. A bubble with the power to wipe out over $1T in #marketplace #value could be growing before our eyes. Keep your feet on the ground and don’t believe the #hype.
