As you may know, Warman O’Brien's Charity Partner for last year was Jigsaw - The National Centre for Youth Mental Health. In support of their remarkable efforts, we ran in the mud, cycled, and even swam in the wild Atlantic Ocean! At the end of each quarter, our team made donations, contributed by each member of our passionate team. Throughout the year, we raised and donated £𝟲,𝟱𝟳𝟭 and are INCREDIBLY thankful to everyone involved. Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust's Therapies team needs your help! 🆘 As you can see, this small outdoor space in our Therapy Outpatients department could do with a little TLC... 💚 It’s a neglected space that has potential to be so much more.  As its situated in the middle of the department, surrounded by windows, patients, visitors, and staff can see out to the courtyard – and we’re sure you’ll agree, it’s not particularly inspiring. It’s not open to the public but staff currently access the space to store hospital equipment through those two doors on the right.  With your support, we can turn a lifeless and unappealing area into a special sanctuary for staff to take timeout, reflect, socialise, and simply enjoy the benefits of getting some fresh air during their busy day. So, how can you help? 🏵️ Donate potted plants, climbers, seating, arches, or decorative garden items  💚 Make a donation to our charity and we’ll allocate it to this project   ✨ Volunteer your time to de-weed and tidy  💡Suggest other ways you or your company could improve the courtyard – we're always open to ideas! I am excited to share that on 10 March 2024, I will be cycling the 109km Cape Town Cycle Tour to embark on another journey for a cause close to my heart. 🚴♂️💖 Around this time last year, many of you joined me in supporting a cause bigger than us by contributing to my 2023 Cape Town Cycle Tour Ride to raise funds for Groote Schuur Hospital (GSH) through its supporting trust, the Groote Schuur Hospital Trust. The outpouring of support was truly overwhelming, and it's time to pedal for purpose once again. This year, the stakes are even higher. Due to austerity measures, GSH's budget has faced significant cuts, impacting its ability to serve some of the Cape Town community's most vulnerable. GSH transcends beyond Cape Town, and assists patients as far away as in the Eastern Cape, thousands of km away from Cape Town. It's important to clarify that this initiative isn't about the governmental decisions but about the patients whose lives depend on the essential services GSH provides. It's about humanity, community, and stepping up where there's a need. The funds raised will go directly to the trust that supports GSH, ensuring that it can continue its vital work without interruption. This is about lending a hand to ensure no one is left behind, especially in these challenging times. Running to Save Lives On September 21st, I'll be running the Red Feather Trail Jamboree 50K, my third ultramarathon since becoming a double donor (kidney & 60% of my liver). I share to inspire others, as one can be a donor and continue to live a healthy, active lifestyle! The Problem: Every day, 16 people lose their lives while waiting for an organ that could come from a living donor. Even if every American registers as a deceased organ and tissue donor, there would still be a drastic shortage of organs available for transplantation. My Reaction: After learning about the problem in 2010, I felt compelled to act. I spent hours learning about living donation. While I didn't have a family member or friend directly in need, I learned that you can make a non-directed donation - meaning a transplant center can use your gift for the best match. In my case, my kidney donation turned into a donation chain, as 6 additional kidney transplants were possible. About 9 years later, I learned that a living donor can donate twice - becoming a double donor. So after a lot research, contacting multiple transplant centers, testing in two different states, I donated 60% of my liver in 2020 - despite COVID lockdowns and disruptions! Your Opportunity: Now that you are aware of the problem, you have several opportunities: 1. Give. Your financial gift saves lives. American Transplant Foundation doesn’t receive any government or corporate funds and relies on financial contributions to provide services to living donors, transplant recipients, and their loved ones. 2. Consider living donor. That's a big ask, but I promise that it is possible to live a healthy, active life after donation (even after two!). In fact, it was only after becoming a donor (and in my 40s) when I began to enjoy jogging and trail running. The Red Feather Trail 50K will be my 14th running event since becoming a donor, and my 3rd ultramarathon since becoming a double donor! 3. Spread the word.
