We find technical people who solve business problems ◆ Transparent Search ◆ Transparent Teams ◆ We are Vocative
“A committee is a group of people who individually can do nothing, but as a group decide nothing can be done.” - Ranulph Fiennes I love this quote - a new one on me as of yesterday (thanks to the always informative "The Knowledge" email) It won't surprise you to hear that it instantly made me think of hiring processes and committees. Alastair Hacking and I just happened to have been discussing the very same thing about an hour earlier. Crucial to any successful hiring process is someone with the seniority, authority and gravitas to make decisions, move things along and gain buy in from everyone else. It can be the hiring manager, it can be the CEO, it can be Talent Acquisition or HR. But they need the combination of three things: authority, decisiveness and motivation. If anyone of them is lacking, the process will drift. And Fiennes' dictum will become true Vocative #hiring #decisions #process

3moI hold hope that groups of people can still achieve things, despite frustrations here and there. I'm curious about the internal client process of creating a role and giving it to internal or external recruiters. I imagine it's a bit more convoluted in practice than: 1) Spot business need 2) Allocate budget 3) Write job spec 4) Release role.
