A lot has happened since we first shared the Cornerstones of Collaborative Governance for a Just and Equitable Future in August 2022. In 2023, we developed a Community Assembly model for Washington State, and this year the City of Seattle and State of Washington are actually piloting community assemblies! As defined by the Just Futures Community Leadership Committee, a community assembly is “a participatory democratic process that brings people together to articulate community needs, assess solutions, and mobilize for action, with a focus on those furthest from economic well-being.” Community assemblies represent the kind of deep, deliberative democracy we need to create a Washington that fosters well-being for everyone in every community.

Three (3) Support Pillars of BEI 1. Civil Society: BEI works to empower civil society organizations (CSOs) to advance democratic values and practices, advocate for good governance, and creation of a climate for inclusive and sustainable governance and economy. In the process, BEI also promotes civic engagement by sensitizing various stakeholders on issues of contemporary relevance and importance, providing training, mobilizing, and creating platforms for engaging them in constructive dialogue and collaboration to address emerging challenges. 2. Government: BEI works with the government, as a partner to assist with the implementation of government policies, projects, and priorities. The organization also engages with various Ministries, Departments, and Government Offices at the Divisional/District and Upazila Levels through undertaking various policy researches, capacity building programs, advocacy initiatives, and public campaigns on issues of public interest. 3. International Partners: BEI collaborates and works with International partners to address the issues of common interest and of shared priority. The partnership focuses on knowledge exchange, sharing the best practices, information sharing, technical and financial collaboration to advance common and collective objectives and commitments.

In today's complex and interconnected world, the concepts of public trust and responsibility hold paramount importance. Public trust is the foundation upon which societies are built, ensuring that individuals and institutions act with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Responsibility, on the other hand, signifies the duty to act ethically and in the best interest of the community. These principles are intertwined, creating a framework that guides our actions and decisions. Whether in government, business, or everyday life, fostering public trust and embracing responsibility are essential for building a just and equitable society. As we navigate the challenges and opportunities of our time, let us commit to upholding these values, ensuring a brighter and more trustworthy future for all. #PuttingPeopleFirst

Helping organizations know what works and why in informal education through evaluation and research.
How the heck do you engage, connect, and mobilize a community toward a common values of resilience? Well, if you're the Nurture Nature Center, you use all the arrows in your quiver - science, art, and deep community relationships. Our partners at NNC published an article describing their multi-pronged CREATE project, which did this work in three municipalities in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley. Our team's evaluation work makes an appearance too! It shares a high-level view of how we used Ripple Effects Mapping to help the project document the various (and sometimes unexpected) pathways through which NNC's work catalyzed one impact, which led to another, and then another, and then another... Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/g4beMNjf And big kudos to Kathryn Semmens, Rachel Hogan Carr, and Keri Maxfield for leading this important, community-based work. #CommunityResilience #CommunityScience #NOAAEducation

Social Impact & Corporate Social Responsibility | Tech, Entertainment, and Media | Community Programs, Campaigns, Employee Engagement and Equity Strategist
For all my #CSR and #SocialImpact professionals strategizing on how to support communities and colleagues directly and indirectly impacted by the racist violence on the streets of the #UK: Let's take the learnings from 2020 and ensure we're connecting with our EMEA partners, leveraging the full breadth of our resources. Whether it's emergency response funds or established racial justice and equity funds, we need to lean in and find the resources to support. Creativity in making a way has always been our strong suit! Our partners are probably overwhelmed, so let's come ready to listen to what they need and have a clear understanding of what we can leverage to support them effectively. It's time to double down on our support and reimagine how our partnerships can best address the current needs of these communities, both now and in the coming months.

UNF Next Generation Fellow | Columbia International Fellows Program | MPA in Development Practice at Columbia SIPA
"It could take one hurricane, one global pandemic, one lost job. Many of us are living on the brink..because of gaps in our systems. There's going to be no true safety and security for me and my family until there is the same for every family in extreme poverty around the world. That's what I want more people to take up into their vision and mission for #SDG1." Watch the full video here: bit.ly/4ap7O5y ————————————- In my adolescence I lived through long stretches of family members being unemployed. It hit home for me that very little separated me from the teenagers experiencing homelessness who I served free meals to every week. We had no difference in our innate ability or long term potential, the main difference was access to a safety net of support. Poverty is not a matter of charity, but a matter of justice. There are many different root causes of poverty and solutions cannot be one size fits all. But there are evidence-based tools that we know work: - Programs that build interpersonal skills and networks, creating confidence and hope that a brighter future is possible - Robust social assistance systems and cash transfers that put tools for breaking poverty traps directly in people's hands - Systems-wide investments in human capital training and apprenticeships that provide a supportive on-ramp into the workforce —————————- I'm inspired by those that recognize business as usual isn't working, and are committing to prioritize SDG funding and implementation to ending poverty. I want to see global policymakers, national governments, and people everywhere reject a status quo where where 700m+ people live without access to their full rights to wellbeing, dignity, and security It's a choice we can make, and it's possible in our lifetimes. Thanks to United Nations Foundation for highlighting this issue.
