We have exciting news from Ireland! Private e-scooters have been recently legalised under the Traffic and Roads Act 2023. This is a significant step forward for sustainable and efficient urban mobility. At Hilo, we strongly believe in the transformative power of e-scooters to reshape how we navigate our cities. By reducing congestion and promoting environmentally friendly transportation options, e-scooters can positively impact urban mobility. The decision made in Ireland is a testament to this growing recognition. We're optimistic that other countries will follow suit. We hope that the United Kingdom will soon embrace a similar approach to regulating e-scooters. Sustainable transport solutions are crucial for building a greener and more connected future. The power of adaptability – a day in the life of Danny van den Berg, Operations & Transport Coordinator at #Intercruises 📞 When the phone rings at 4am, and it’s your colleague from Barcelona, you know a challenge is on the horizon... 🚢 We have a situation - the ship I’m supposed to meet in Amsterdam is being blocked by protesters, preventing access, and as a result, the ship must divert to IJmuiden, and the 1,900 passengers onboard need to disembark there. 🚕 Our teams quickly mobilize - one stays in Amsterdam, while another, including myself, heads to IJmuiden. We successfully transport around 1,400 passengers from IJmuiden to Amsterdam and the airport, while 500 go by taxi. All of this is accomplished in just a few hours. 🚌 But the next hurdle awaits: how do we move the new passengers from Amsterdam to IJmuiden? Once again, we rise to the challenge. With a fleet of buses, we transport 2,400 people from Amsterdam to IJmuiden. 🙌🏼 It wouldn’t have been possible without the selflessness of our drivers, many of whom gave up their day off to help. 💥 What started as a routine operation became a massive undertaking. But thanks to teamwork and collaboration across all parties, every piece of the puzzle fell into place. A huge thank you to everyone involved! I'm a passionate sailor, and the well-being of my favorite playground – the ocean – is a matter close to my heart. I'm thrilled to be able to seamlessly combine my hobby and profession. Marine protection and innovative, #sustainable technologies have always been an integral part of boot Düsseldorf. This year at #boot2024, we will continue our sustainability forum 'blue innovation dock' in collaboration with our partner European Boating Industry. The #B2bid is a real innovation driver and our international networking platform for politics, NGOs and the industry. Last year, we saw fantastic ideas and technologies for water sports, marinas and moorings on stage. With outstanding speakers and an engaged audience, it was a great success. This year, we're taking the forum a step further, extending it to our B2C audience due to a rising demand for sustainable solutions among our visitors. One focus topic, crucial for both manufacturers and buyers, is electric propulsion. A recent study by our partner European Boating Industry shows that electric propulsion is one of the most interesting options for boat buyers. However, there's a catch: Customers value sustainability and openness to alternative propulsion options but are not willing to pay significantly higher prices or compromise on comfort, range and safety. The demand is there and our industry needs to meet these expectations, but challenges remain: We are still in the early stages of developing a comprehensive charging infrastructure, reliability, range, and potential applications in marinas. When talking about modal shift, logisticians think of shifting transport volumes to environmentally friendly modes of transport such as #rail and inland shipping. The potential is huge, especially in inland waterway transport. The fact that a modal shift makes just as much sense when travelling to work is often forgotten or suppressed. Splitting commuter flows from "1 person-per-car-behaviour" towards public transport, bikes or car sharing leads, with relatively little effort and a little more willpower, to a positive reduction in emissions (as well as added health benefits for employees). The city of Antwerpen Stad Antwerpen has introduced the "Smart Ways to Antwerp" programme, which aims to create smarter and more sustainable transport policies for employee commuting and thus achieve a long-term change in behaviour. The city of Antwerp is extending its "Smart Ways to Antwerp" program to more businesses in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges port area. PIONEERS Ports has the ambition to implement specific initiatives with the aim of encouraging sustainable transportation among port area employers and employees, such as increasing cycling use and building cycle paths, as part of the masterplan for bicycle infrastructure.   PIONEERS addresses the challenges faced by European ports to reduce their environmental impact while remaining competitive and offering added value in a sustainable global trade ecosystem. The Port of Antwerp-Bruges operates the largest port area in the world and is pioneering the transition to a climate-neutral port. For this reason, PIONEERS will build on the Port of Antwerp-Bruges' commitment to extend the current state of the art and demonstrate the applicability and feasibility through several demonstrations and act as a beacon for #EU ports. Summer time! Mpact colleagues and public transport enthusiasts Jasmien and Caroline took a ride on the longest tram line in the world: the coast tram at the Belgian coast! 🚊 The tram ride De Panne - Knokke covers 67 km and takes 2h30min to complete. Though a pit stop in Oostende is warmly recommended ☕ 👩🦽 Accessibility: There is still a lot of work to be done for accessibility, but stops with accessible platforms are dotted along the whole coast. The old trams have been replaced with accessible, low-floor varieties 👏 There is an arrow with the direction present at every stop, so new users never board a tram in the wrong direction! 🚂 Mobility hubs: Several of the stops form a hub with the local train stations: De Panne, Oostende, Blankenberge, Knokke. There are a few other hubs in between, e.g. in Nieuwpoort, where you can switch from tram to bus, shared car, shared bike… 🚧 Technicalities: the tram is unidirectional (which creates a prime seating area with a view in the back) and needs to be turned on a loop or ‘triangle’. The tram line requires an extra high quality ‘sand sucker’ to keep the beach and the dunes out of the rails 😁 🎉 Fun facts: The current model tram is called “zeelijner” (“sea liner”, a nod to “ocean liner”). When the first part of the tram line was installed in 1885 it was still a steam tram! 😱 Next time you’re in Belgium and you're looking to fill half a day, you know what to do! 🏖️ #publictransport #mobility #belgium
