In 2016, I interned at Pratinidhi TV with a monthly stipend of ₹8,000. Now, NDTV offers freshers ₹12,000, which reflects only an 11.9% real increase after adjusting for inflation. Considering the 34% inflation rate from 2016 to 2024, the 2016 stipend of ₹8,000 equals about ₹10,720 today. For high-demand industries like media, an ideal stipend should range from ₹15,000 to ₹20,000 or more, aligning with current market trends and cost-of-living increases, especially in competitive urban areas.

One thing I heard multiple times in LA is that around 70-80% of the animation workforce has been laid off over the last 1-2 years. It's heartbreaking. With that many people looking for work, how can studios who are still in business support as many people as they can, even when they are not hiring? A few ideas we've had in mind are: - Mentorships (I run one through Women in Animation on how to start your own studio https://lnkd.in/grU4Fb9w) - Internships (especially if your school has a specific program set up) - Office hours for people looking for portfolio and resume reviews (ours are available here: https://lnkd.in/e_64PEVe) - Group networking events (it's a good time to start building relationships!) “Not only did we throw your application in the trash, but we also ask that you NEVER apply again” ➡️😱 ➡️😑 ➡️😭 ➡️🤣 OKAY, so… that didn’t actually ever happen, but it’s what I fear I’m gonna see every time I open my inbox. I’ve found that writing my worst case scenario responses and coming to terms with them really helps when sending out applications because 1. It gets them out of my head 2. More often then not, they’re unrealistic and therefore become just plain funny I recently applied for an internship at Warner Bros. Animation and got rejected pretty fast. I made two slideshows showcasing my work from the last two years that I honestly thought was pretty bangin’. I didn’t get in, and although they couldn’t give me personalized feedback, these are my takeaways- 📬Less is more. They did not want a big slideshow, no matter how bangin’ it was. 📬BE OLDER AND MORE EXPERIENCED!!! Ngl, sophomores ain’t always so much help (or so I’ve heard 😭) 📬Written accreditations are appreciated over images (even in an art position) So while they didn’t tell me to NEVER apply again, they did tell me to wait until the year’s end. I guess I’ll try to become older and wiser in the meantime. Thank you for reading. "Only 7% of DEI companies/non-profits have a board director who openly identifies as disabled, and only 7% mention disability in their board nomination documents. Another 7% plan to include disability in their nomination charters within the next year. In June 2023, Disability and the Thomson Reuters Foundation published a legal brief highlighting the lack of board-level disability disclosures and urged the private sector to track disability inclusion in corporate governance to promote regulatory disclosures for board diversity." - Disability Index 2023. Move United, you may also want to employ a director who is not able-bodied and comes with no record of disability empathy, awareness, or education on their resume.
