Great news from VARD! 🔈 Our Norwegian subsidiary signed a contract for the design and construction of one new state-of-the-art Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) for the Norwegian company REM. Scheduled for delivery in late 2026, the new vessel will be the third of its kind built by VARD for REM, designed to provide support during the construction, operation and maintenance of offshore wind farms worldwide. Thanks to the VARD 4 19 design, the vessel will combine versatility, safety, comfort and superior functionality, offering highly flexible and fuel-efficient operation through diesel-electric and battery hybrid propulsion system. Today we launched results from the North Sea Basin Analysis at WindEnergy Hamburg! Main takeaways are: ✅ To be ready for the peak, development of ports must start NOW! ✅ Norway can alleviate pressure on the build out of offshore wind with a wide range of ports and significant offshore experience! ✅ Although Norway has a strong starting point with its good conditions for ports and highly experienced offshore industry, there are limitations to overcome in the form of limited space, often short quays, and competition with current activities! ✅ First, Norway can utilize quick wins in the south by supporting bottom fixed projects in the North Sea basin! Following on from yesterday, more Floating Offshore Wind FOW innovation activation! On Monday we took a look at Norway bringing together its NOW corporate collaboration to address 4 key areas for FOW innovation, support with €6m of EU funding; 1️⃣ Optimising Efficiency 2️⃣ Sustainability 3️⃣ Installation 4️⃣ Environmental Impact More news from Europe on another collaborative effort - FLOATFARM. This brings together 17 organisations with a similar EU funding level of approximately €6m to drive forward; ⏩ LCOE Reduction - weight reduction, innovative generators, digital optimisation ⏩ Marine Components - platform, morring, cabling configurations, systems efficiencies ⏩ Offshore Farm Optimisation - aerodynamics, synchronised turbine controllers, platform motion ⏩ Mooring & Anchor Concepts - testing & validation of installation techniques, dynamic coupling, connected platforms, LCOE impact ⏩ Managing Impact - environmental noise & ecosystem challenges, public perception and acceptance,. This collaboration involves more Universities and Engineering consultancies, less large scale corporates than the Norwegian NOW project. Although they share some similar aims and objectives, we may well see different approaches and outcomes. 8 countries involved in this one - unfortunately no UK involvement here - have we mistakenly excused ourselves from such EU collaborations post Brexit 🤔 Let's hope the UK sector FOW stakeholder calls for more support, a National Test Facility and clear, strong and long-term policy signals from thew new Gov. are heeded. Alongside the all important funding for innovation we need to optimise our technologies and infrastructure. The winner of AO5, the first floating wind farm tender located offshore southern Brittany, is now known.🏆 The French Government selected Pennavel, the consortium composed of Elicio and BayWa r.e. EMEA, for this 250 MW offshore wind farm. It will also be the first commercial floating offshore wind farm in #France. XP SEA, which has been working for two years on AO5, supporting Moulins de Mervent consortium, enthusiastically welcomes this exciting news awaited for months by an entire industry. 🌱 It is a major project for France and for Brittany's energy independence, contributing to accelerating the ecological transition. Furthermore, the French Government highlighted the local #breizhContent contribution in which XP Sea fits perfectly, being based in Lorient near the future wind farm. Now, Brittany’s wind industry, to which XP Sea belongs, can take action. Many challenges lie ahead for this first French Floating Wind Farm.
