I recently read about a ~70 person company that pays its employees $100 each to socialize outside of work. Ethena leased an office space in Brooklyn & repurposed their office budget to pay employees $100 each to hang out with one another. The plan went something like this: The company would pay $100 to each employee to go spend time with each other & do some kind of activity - whether that was playing laser tag, going bowling, playing tennis or even getting nails done. This not only helped build relationships between employees but also helped them get a feel for the work styles & rhythms of the other person. Naturally, this led to a boost in productivity. Not every company has the luxury of having their team members get together in person but the principle is the same in the virtual realm: Use enjoyable activities as an anchor to bond like-minded people together. I enjoyed this story because it's an example of adaptation towards what matters most - strong relationships amongst your team. Loved the psychological focus on incentives here as well — encouraging positive behavior with rewards & incentives.
