Career Coach & Resume Writer | Helping Professionals Articulate Their Unique Value | HR Consultancy Services
I find myself back in campus, and it feels like just yesterday. I was uncertain about my life goals. Although I was studying Human Resource Development and had a clear desire to pursue it, I lacked a concrete plan. My classes took place in the evenings, and yes, I was indeed in the company of more mature individuals, who are ironically not considered old now. I recall approaching Fredrick Dolo, a fellow classmate and HR practitioner, seeking assistance in securing an attachment. Given our dual roles as classmates and client-vendor, he readily agreed. Fredrick provided me with Dolo Dorothy (CHRP-K)(FMIHRM) contact details and advised me to reach out. Nervous but determined, I made the call. Dorothy invited me to her office the following week, prompting me to hastily prepare my CV, although my inexperience made the process challenging. Fortunately, our conversation was brief, leading to an immediate job offer. Are you prepared for the job you're seeking, and do you know where to look? A huge shoutout to Dolo Dorothy (CHRP-K)(FMIHRM)Fredrick Dolo for believing in me then. It seems like short video introductions are gaining popularity in job applications. Here's my take: Pros * Personality showcase: Shows more of you than a resume. * Quick screening: Can help employers get a sense of communication skills early on. Cons * Bias potential: May lead to unfair judgments based on appearance, etc. * Applicant effort: Time-consuming for candidates. Overall: I think it's reasonable as an optional way to stand out, but a bad idea as a requirement. What do you think?
