🌍 Biodiversity is the bedrock of life on Earth—from the air we breathe to the food we eat, it sustains us all. By strengthening ecosystems, biodiversity helps them withstand changes and disruptions, ensuring the balance of our natural world. Educating ourselves and others about its importance is essential, as it empowers us to make informed decisions that protect and preserve our planet's invaluable resources. Over the past six months, I had the privilege of deepening my understanding of Biodiversity through an excellent course with the EIIS - European Institute of Innovation for Sustainability . This journey is part of a broader commitment I made some time ago to learn more about sustainability, conservation, and nature. Receiving a certificate is a gratifying milestone, recognising the time and effort invested in such a vital topic. Yet, it’s just another stepping stone in the ongoing pursuit of knowledge on what I believe are among the most critical issues of our time: conservation, sustainability, and biodiversity. In the words of the legendary David Attenborough: "It seems to me that the natural world is the greatest source of excitement; the greatest source of visual beauty; the greatest source of intellectual interest. Theme: Mountain solutions for a sustainable future – innovation, adaptation and youth..! Mountains cover one-quarter of Earth’s surface and host many global biological diversity hotspots. Half of the world’s population depends on them for water, energy and other critical ecosystem services. Recognizing the unique value of mountain ecosystems, Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) have established a Programme of work on mountain biodiversity. The activities it includes are articulated around the protection of crucial mountain ecosystems services, including supporting genetic and cultural diversity, as well as the livelihoods of highland and lowland communities.

As one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, Colombia is home to countless species crucial for maintaining our planet's delicate balance. 🦜 At Florverde Sustainable Flowers, our collaboration with the "Birds of Flowers" study highlights the beauty and significance of the birds that thrive alongside our flowers, such as the resilient Spot-Flanked Gallinule (Gallinula melanops bogotensis). This day was a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting our rich biodiversity and each species' vital role.
