🌍 Decarbonization in Action: Synthesizing Green Ammonia 🌍 Check out the third presentation in our decarbonization series from the workshop at Concordia University! This time, we are featuring Troy Jerome, President and CEO of SEN’Ti Environment & Indigenous Services. In his informative presentation, Troy demonstrates the advantages of fostering Indigenous partnerships in pursuing clean energy solutions. The overarching objective is to significantly diminish the environmental impact of cement plant operations by implementing synthesized green ammonia as a safe, carbon-free alternative to diesel. I'm looking forward to discussing the social considerations and critical importance of community engagement in deploying carbon management projects, especially #directaircapture, at #ghgt17 today. I'll be speaking on the panel "Commercial and Business Risks: Proven Strategies for Success – Societal Conditions," diving deeper than "yes community engagement is needed." Deployment in partnership with communities is how carbon removal succeeds — and goes far beyond a default checkbox item. If I see you there, come say hi!

“It’s super critical that people understand that the transition is anything but just, and anything but equitable,” says Maureen Penjueli, an indigenous community leader and Head of the nongovernmental advocacy group Pacific Network on Globalization. While Maureen and Other Indigenous community leaders understand the dire nature of climate change and achieving a just transition, they are concerned about some of the solutions like deep-sea mineral extraction for the production of electric car batteries having devastating effects on the indigenous communities and their lands; a UN Report has solidified these concerns. It is crucial that on the journey to change for the betterment of everyone, we do not wreak havoc on others. The Indigenous communities have their rights, and they have a voice. It is time to ensure their voices are heard, prioritized, and adhered to.
