The 2023 Battery Report is now published! 2023 was a year of progress and recalibration for the battery industry, with significant developments in industry, investments, manufacturing, supply chain, innovation, research, policy, and talent. Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/dizhYa-Q Some key highlights from this 300+ page report: 2023 🚘 EV “price war” lowered average EV price by 25%, or $15,000 since September 2022. The price gap between EV and fossils is now under $3,000. 📉 Raw materials prices fall in 2023 as supply outpaces demand, lowering cell-level price by 16% to $107/kWh. 🪨 With China’s dominance on graphite and new restrictions on graphite exports, development of graphite facilities in ex-China locations receives renewed attention. 🧪 Latest research in battery materials (Na-ion, Li-metal, solid-state, sulfur). Research related to Na-ion is on the rise, accounting for 13% of publications. 🔋 Battery form-factor trending towards large-format prismatic LFP cells for EVs and BESS. ✅ NACS’s dramatic adoption by nearly all major OEMs in North America 👩🔬 Shortage of battery talent persists, junior battery engineers make $100k+ in Michigan and $125k+ in California. With the industry moving at a breathtaking pace, we hope to lower the barrier for anyone looking to learn more about the battery industry, and to catalyze dialogue on the state of batteries and its trajectory into the future. This report was produced by the Volta Foundation and was a massively collaborative project between 120+ battery professionals from 100+ institutions. Our DMs are always open and would love to hear comments, questions, concerns, or anything in between. Enjoy reading! #BatteryReport2023 #Batteries #EnergyStorage #Energy #EV #ElectricVehicle #BattChat #Sustainability #lithiumionbatteries

Great report, but the Recycling section is missing a reference to US Strategic Metals. Their hydromet facility is already under construction and will easily be one of the largest battery recycling plant in the US within the next 2 years.

Good read 👍

Jeffrey Bell and Aubert Demaray of Battery Talk are extremely proud to have worked as Authors on the 2023 Volta Foundation battery report and are now excited for it to be shared with the Battery Industry. Thank you very much to all of the other Authors and contributors, and especially Linda Jing, for everything you all did to make this amazing resource for the world. Battery Talk will be presenting on the Cell Chemistry section of the report at the next Battery Brunch (Volta Foundation) on February 17th and many of the other authors will also be presenting on their sections as well. We hope you come and join is in reviewing and talking about the 2023 Volta Battery Report!

Thank you Linda Jing and Yen T. Yeh! Best one yet :)

Which trends are people most excited for in 2024? I'm curious to see what happens with NACS, sodium-ion, LMFP, and energy storage!
