In my book Breathing Lessons: A Doctor's Guide to Lung Health, I address the importance of reducing indoor pollution for our families' health. Researchers now suggest that these efforts impact entire cities comprehensively. https://bit.ly/3XQ4WMc As we collectively think more about indoor air quality, we need to push for updated building regulations and educate the public on best practices to protect their #lunghealth.

🌍 What denies our right to live healthily? 💔 As pollution levels soar and clean air becomes a luxury, are we compromising our health for unchecked economic growth? Chronic respiratory issues, smog-filled mornings, and toxic air are taking a toll on us, yet awareness and action remain minimal. 🛑 It's time to prioritize clean air as a basic human right. ☁️ Clean air is essential for everyone’s health, but for those who live in economically disadvantaged areas, the effects of air pollution can be particularly acute. 🍃 🌍 HEAL calls on policymakers to take the opportunity to address this inequality as they begin to implement the revised Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD). To read the full briefing, including our policy recommendations, follow the link: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e-aj6Jv2 💙 Share this post if you agree that policymakers urgently need to address the health equity gap from air pollution. #CleanAir4Health

Something to consider next time you're doing your morning commute, as independent tests recorded an average level of air pollution (particulate matter) of 492 micrograms per cubic metre (μg/m3) at an underground station’s platform on the Northern line, compared with an annual average of 16 μg/m3 from a roadside monitoring site in London, representing 30x more pollution at the tube than at the roadside. More alarming, is that this is *98 times* the World Health Organisation's target of 5μg/m3, showing just how harmful your morning commute can be to your health. All London hospitals are in areas that exceed WHO toxic pollution limits for Nitrogen Dioxide and Particulate Matter 2.5! Hospitals are meant to be places we go to improve our health, yet research in 2022 showed that 2 main air pollutants that significantly impact human health are over World Health Organisation targets. Exposure to such air pollution can stunt the growth of child's lungs and worsen chronic illnesses. Full info here: https://lnkd.in/djgZF-GA It is due to shocking data such as this, why we have developed our AirSMART bollards, which are easy to install and can reduce local air pollution by up to 65%. The use of our products in key locations such as hospitals could have a dramatic impact on the health of patients, staff and visitors, which would save healthcare providers much more in the long term in reduced healthcare costs for patients and reduced absenteeism for staff, than the cost to install and run them.
