🚗🔬 Exciting News from the RANCS Research Lab ! 🔬🚗 We are thrilled to announce that the Resilient, Autonomous, Networked Control System (RANCS) research lab, Directed by Assistant Professor Dr. Arman Sargolzaei, recently conducted a series of groundbreaking field experiments on low-speed, high-speed, and freeway platooning at the SunTrax testing facility in Auburndale, FL. This project, titled “Infrastructure Enablers for Reliable Cooperative Driving Automation,” has been generously supported by the Florida Department of Transportation. Their innovative experiments involved three lab test vehicles – a Cadillac XT5, a Ford Fusion Hybrid, and a Mustang Mach-E – to explore Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC), freeway merging and diverging, Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication, and platooning. These experiments showcased: - ACC & CACC Testing: Demonstrating sensor fusion, system functionality, and mixed traffic simulation at speeds ranging from 20 mph to 65 mph. - Freeway Merging & Diverging: Highlighting the efficiency of cooperative systems over solely autonomous agents in hazardous maneuvers. - V2I Communication: Proving the potential of roadside units to enforce desired driving behaviors, enhancing safety and efficiency in various traffic conditions. Our students developed cutting-edge algorithms in a Software-in-the-Loop environment, tested them in Hardware-in-the-Loop and Vehicle-in-the-Loop setups, and successfully evaluated them in real-world scenarios. The results were promising, indicating significant advancements in autonomous vehicle technology and cooperative driving systems. These achievements underscore our commitment to pioneering research in autonomous driving and smart infrastructure. The presentation provided valuable perspectives on the evolving landscape of automotive technology on Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs) and regulatory challenges.
