Did you know? Batteries play a transformative role in the #EnergyTransition! 🔋⚡ Here are some of findings from the latest groundbreaking report from the International Energy Agency (IEA): 🔋Batteries have a total installed capacity of 2,400 GWh, which is four times greater than in 2020 – that’s about the yearly output of 450 wind turbines! 🔌 Batteries are pivotal in advancing the attainment of electricity access targets under #SDG7. Thanks to batteries in mini-grids and solar home systems, 40 million additional people now have access to electricity. 📈 By 2030, batteries are projected to facilitate the extension of electricity access to a further 450 million individuals, bringing us closer to universal energy access. 📉 The decreasing costs of batteries are making it more financially feasible for remote and economically disadvantaged households to access higher levels of energy services. ♻ Recycling is crucial. Currently, 220 million small batteries from solar systems are either defective or end up in landfills. Re-using these batteries is possible, and can reduce overall costs, but certain technical and regulatory obstacles must first be tackled.
