David…..There are many of us who agree with your statement: “School shootings are not prevented or deterred by armed staff, fences, clear backpacks, bulletproof chalkboards, and fortifying school buildings to resemble military bases or prisons.” Every school and school district already has a threat detector system in place. It is free. The only investment is time. Time to develop strong relationships between teachers, students, parents, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders. In my experience, communities want to be involved in providing a safe learning environment for students. Leverage these relationships so people feel comfortable talking to others they trust. The leakage we hear about with school violence can certainly be mitigated by the use of this no cost system.
Another school shooting plot averted by a student hearing a classmate talking about an attack and saying something to an adult. This is the 8th publicly reported planned attack that has been detected so far in 2024. A 14-year-old student in Ohio had a detailed plan and hitlist. Mariemont Chief of Police Richard Hines said, “If we hadn’t gotten the tip, I think we would have had a very bad situation.” School shootings are not prevented or deterred by armed staff, fences, clear backpacks, bulletproof chalkboards, and fortifying school buildings to resemble military bases or prisons. If students are empowered to have an active role is preventing violence, this is the lowest cost and most holistic approach to prevent an attack *before* a student brings a gun to school.

Are you informed? These stories do not get enough news coverage. Students and staff are recognizing pre threat behavior indicators and are making proper notifications. Just think if we had more educational opportunities on violence prevention and mental wellness in our schools to go along with our on going preparedness and response training. #schoolsafety #prevention #prepardness #response #activeshootertraining #activethreatprepardness #prethreatbehaviorindicators #safeschools

I have met DDC Maggie Blyth at various roundtable meetings about domestic abuse. One of our key recommendations is to focus on supporting minority women. Violence against individuals, especially women and girls, is increasing. While it's important to address issues across different gender and age groups, we should also focus on the specific challenges faced by minoritised women and how we can save lives. #WomenJustice has put forward recommendations to address these issues. #raneemslaw

"We're taking our methodology from the way we approach counter-terror, the way we approach serious and organised crime, to have national coordination, to set standards through our national College of Policing, to look at training, to look at ensuring we have the right workforce in the police service to provide the right service to victims." https://lnkd.in/eqj3w8bf

When threat management is executed correctly, the results are correct as well.

Lieutenant (ret.) at Prince William County Police Department / Director of Training & Research at First 30 Group / Board Member at VTV Family Outreach Foundation. #activeshootertraining
A lot has evolved in the past 58 years regarding how police, fire, and EMS respond to mass attacks. This includes advancements such as the creation of training programs for public safety (and civilians), the widespread use of patrol rifles, body armor, and the implementation of Rescue Task Forces. What other enhancements have we made in recent decades, and most importantly, what areas still need improvement?
The University of Texas tower shooting marked a turning point in the history of mass shootings in America. After murdering his wife and mother, the attacker ascended to the top of a campus tower and opened fire on the public below, resulting in the deaths of over a dozen people. Notably, civilians, who worked side-by-side with police, played a crucial role in ultimately stopping the attack. This harrowing incident, unprecedented in its scale and media coverage, helped spur the creation of SWAT teams nationwide to address such catastrophic incidents. Exploration of 2nd Shooter ~ Rep Eli Crane, who was a prior Navy Seal Sniper, grills Colonel Paris PA State Police. One analysis pointed out there is a Butler Community Center building which lines up directly behind Crooks position on roof. This is not mentioned in this clip. Per analysis, Community Center building which was closed day of rally, is approximately 1500 yards out from podium, well within range of professional sniper. Sound analysis of gun shots identify different echo on first shots compared to second set of shots, prior to last shot neutralizing Crooks. First shots had long echo, perhaps longer distance point of origin. Second set of shots had short echo and perhaps were from Crooks spraying crowd in bleachers. Eight Casings Recovered Colonel Paris confirms number of casings recovered, but does not state where casings were recovered from. #elicrane #repelicrane #worldnews #firstpost #skynewsaustralia #specialforces #navyseals #armyrangers #mainstreetusa #veterans #uscongress #Trump2024

From SWAT to Special Intervention Squad: Are we just swapping names or seeing real change? Former Police Chief Mohammad Adamu initiated the establishment of the Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) squad to address deficiencies left by the infamous Federal Special Anti-robbery Squad (FSARS). Presently, the incumbent police leadership is introducing the Special Intervention Squad to fortify security measures. Nevertheless, the proliferation of numerous squads without discernible outcomes prompts valid concerns regarding the efficacy of these endeavors #PoliceReform #SecurityConcerns #NigeriaPolice
