2 days with major announcements from the 2 largest AI players currently. Lots of new models, new features, expanded context awareness and so on. But I think the thing that stands out most to me is that we are starting to get a better idea of just how these LLMs will interact with other pieces of technology, along side our daily lives. For now, I think you could almost make an analogy to a car. The LLM is the engine that's working in the background to create the motion, and power the other surrounding components. RAGs and grounding data become the steering wheel and tires. All the parts have to work together. We'll see new engine designs and new ways to interact over the coming years, but I think the LLMs themselves will become commoditized. It will be the surrounding pieces that make each AI solutions unique and determine where to use each, while hooking into the LLM of choice. At least until AGI becomes viable. Then everything changes again.

Too many AI platforms are faking and emulating rather than executing. It’s a typical time of building facades rather than entire buildings. Unfortunately this comes with an inevitable collapse in valuations and expectations. The hype vs hope cycle is perennial.

Is Kling AI the New King of the hill? Yes…but It’s complicated. Kling is undoubtedly the best text/image-to-video platform available. It offers output and stability on par with, if not better than, Runway. Its image-to-video outputs are similar to Luma’s Dream Machine, but unlike Luma, what you prompt is what you get. So why’s it complicated? It still has a slot-machine-like output. But that’s a given. Even though the level of control is leagues above other models, it’s still a case of trial and error. You’re just getting more usable results more often. The main issue is the video quality, at least when generating from images. Compared to Luma, the outputs are noticeably low resolution. There often appears to be anti-aliasing, and the color grade tends to skew darker over time. But, even with these drawbacks, Kling’s more consistent prompt results and image input control place it at the top of the pile. With high quality mode and camera controls on the horizon, it’s set to be the new standard, at least in the short term.
