Human-first also means self-care. Self-care red flags are often ignored. Here are mine: 🚩My Peloton app stops checking on me. 🚩Friends assuming I’m not available. 🚩Missing my birthday burpees. 🚩MyFitnessPal gives up on me. 🚩My WalkingPad gets dusty. I’ve seen this scenario before and it doesn’t end well. So I’ll: 💪Do my birthday burpees, albeit late and maybe slow. 💪Get the WalkingPad back in daily service. 💪Add my workouts to my calendar. 💪Catch up with Jess Sims. 💪Get outside every day. 💪Give myself grace to not get it all right all at once. What are your red flags and how can you respond? This is my new routine for preparing for Mondays... I don't, the only thing I do is go into the Peloton app and build the stack of workouts I plan on doing the following week. I learned this from Richard Dolan during his Monday morning calls. Sundays are for family and relaxing. And, Monday morning before work I plan my week. Richard says if you crash Monday you'll crash everyday. One way I like to psych myself up, is by listening to 100 ways to stay motivated by Grant Cardone. “This song is from back in 1991, when no one cared about your excuses.” Robin Arzon, a superb Peloton instructor and also VP of Fitness Programming, dropped the above quote during a recent Nineties hip-hop Peloton ride. Her comment resonated with me. "Suck it up buttercup" was a common phrase heard in the nineties. Isn’t it fascinating how times have changed? Today, the world is far more supportive and understanding. It's become more acceptable, especially for men, to express feelings and seek help. We've created an environment rich with resources for personal and professional support. But here's a reality check: despite this progress, the world remains fiercely competitive for scarce resources. Dream of owning a house to raise your family in a central, attractive city? Well, the harsh truth is, your excuses won’t be the down payment. Hustle culture often gets a bad rap. In some cultures, if you don't bother coming in on Saturday, don't bother coming back in on Sunday. Yet, no one is forcing you into the hustle; it's a personal boundary you set and maintain. But if your eyes are set on scarce, coveted prizes – promotions, raises, or prime real estate – your excuses won’t cut it. If you want the scarce, coveted prizes, hustle culture gives you an advantage. Not making excuses gives you an advantage. In a way, it’s still 1991 out there. People today may offer empathy and sympathy; they might even care about your excuses. But the scarce prizes you desire? Community: there’s something about a sense of community that drives us as human beings whether we’re introverted, extroverted, emotional, logical, organized, action oriented, you name it - communities help make us better. One of my goals over the last couple years has been to stay more engaged with my Peloton community. I’m very blessed. I have an amazing Peloton community as well as a running community. Both provide me encouragement, escape, peace, laughter, tears, yes even tears. If I’m running a race, or if I’m on a hard peloton ride, a word of encouragement will bring me to tears: tears of gratefulness , tears of pride, tears that release toxins:) Physical activity is quite the gateway to our other energies necessary to maintain our leadership life flow:, emotionally, purposefully, intellectually and physically. There isn’t a good or bad time to work out, but like me, if you need the gateway to leadership flow opened in the morning, consider knocking out your physical activity before you check those emails, Get on TikTok, or catch up on the news. If you can’t find a community that’s right for you, consider starting one. Bring a few like-minded individuals- and bam- start your own community:) who knows where it will go?! I am forever grateful to the physical communities of Peloton, Potomac River Running, Optavia, TNT and others- thank you for always making me feel a part of something great and allowing me the honor of pouring into others, while I grow myself. How to successfully navigate anxiousness and stress during the play-off grind as an ambitious youth athlete? Playoffs aren't just about pushing your body to the limit; they also demand immense mental resilience. Just think about must-win games and do or die scenarios. Exhilarating for some athletes, times of increased pressure for others. And balancing several games a week while staying mentally sharp for each match is obviously a significant challenge. So how does a young athlete, particularly when prone to stress and nerves deal with this? As with anything else in life that we want to tackle, it starts with recognizing that one has an issue that needs to be addressed, in our case here: play-off grind scenario impacting nerves and consequentially very likely performance potential. From here one can craft an action plan and with remediation steps and this may look different from athlete to athlete (think mindfulness meditation, visualization, pre-game routines). Doesn't necessary take too much time - but might just be the lifeline for your play-off season!!

We often forget that we have the answers to the test. We know what makes us happy or productive or fulfilled, but we don't always prioritize these things... Recently for me, it's been exercising in the mornings. Doesn't have to be anything complicated, even a quick 15-20 minutes can do the trick. And yet, I'll find all the reasons why I shouldn't prioritize it: - I can use that time to get an earlier start on my work day - I should really get to those dirty dishes - I might be able to get a couple emails out first (spoiler: it'll be noon before I know it) By pushing back everything else to exercise, the rest of my day goes better 100% of the time. I'm more alert. I'm more productive. My mood is improved. All of this for as little as 15-20 minutes in the morning. Don't overcomplicate things: prioritize the things that you know make you a better you. My guy over at Peloton Interactive, Bradley Rose, said it best during this morning's 80s Rock Ride: "It's not about being perfect. It's about being a little bit better today than you were yesterday." Now, if you excuse me, I need to get back to it. It's a great day to have a great day.

I created Walkfit™ during lockdown as a way to get our steps in while at home using great music and ZOOM. 100's of people joined the ZOOM classes and it became clear what a simple and effective concept Walkfit™ is. I created a Teacher Training Programme around it, TM'ed the name and logo and since hundreds of group Fitness Instructors have trained and launched online and face to face classes around the world. I wanted to touch base with you about Walkfit™ and the effect it has had on bringing new members into my online studio by hosting Walkfit™ challenges this January. I did a Facebook Live about it, which I will link to below. Walkfit™ appeals to everyone. My regular members love the fact that they can clock up 2000 steps in 15 minutes, and it attracts a wide cross-section of the population who are not active and want to get moving. It helps people build a daily activity habit. For marketing, I have do Express "lives" on Facebook, Youtube & Instagram, and I make daily Walkfit™ reels which get lots of attention.
