New Brakes on the #A320 have more carbon, but the total weight of does not change, as the brakes still weigh only 66Kgs per wheel. The rear plate has been eliminated & the number of pistons reduced by 28%, to improve the design & reduce weight, operating cost & maintenance. Ventilation has also been increased, by 48%, to ensure better cooling, faster turnaround & therefore higher fleet dispatch reliability. Fun Fact : The carbon brake on the #A320 is capable of stopping the equivalent of 75 F1 cars & are capable of absorbing up to 135 MJ of energy.
