This was our "retail store" under construction when we were running and operating our old EV reseller EBC. By retail store, I mean the front corner of our warehouse facility.
For context, we hit a certain point, where in order for us to expand into wholesale prices, and away from our 15-25% gross margins (awful I know), we had to have a retail space or "test drive" location. The main problem was we couldn't afford to have our own location. So...we thought we'd build one ourselves. This cost us about $300, between the flooring, paint, display banners, Alex's awfully uncomfortable couch, and the mat we found outside. But after 2-days we turned it into not a half-bad little display that opened us up to maybe 10 more leading brands in the EV space, that became a core engine of our brand.
In today's DC newsletter I've talked about some things I've learned in the process of undergoing our first exit, as well as reflecting on the fact that you can almost never control timing. Seems like a century ago, we were painting this little space!
