The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has announced new regulations to combat unsolicited telemarketing calls and protect consumer privacy. Key measures include: - Telemarketers must register their numbers in a special commercial database. - An anti-spam alert service will notify citizens with an "NTRA Alert" when contacted by a registered number. - The regulations align with the Consumer Protection Law No. 181 of 2018, ensuring businesses respect consumer privacy. - Citizens should report unregistered calls to their mobile operator or the NTRA hotline 155 or website. Telemarketers and mobile operators have a one (1)-month grace period to comply, after which legal and regulatory actions will be enforced against violators. In June, Telecom Egypt reported a 90% reduction in scam and unwanted robocalls after implementing Enea's voice firewall. The MCA recognises the benefits that businesses and other organisations can gain by using internet- or cloud-based communications solutions. However, a number of such solutions are being provided by unauthorised service providers. As from 1 November 2024, calls with Maltese numbers starting with 1, 2, or 8 placed via such unauthorised service providers will be blocked by locally authorised network operators. These blocking measures are primarily intended to stop scam calls that spoof Maltese numbers in the calling line identification (CLI). Check if you are currently using such unauthorised solutions, and take action! Dial +356 2400 2400 from within your solution. Orange BurkinaFaso has entrusted VOX SOLUTIONS with the complete operational management of its "International A2P Voice & SMS" service, dedicated to international companies identified by virtual phone numbers or names as SMS senderID on application platforms. This is a best practice increasingly adopted by mobile operators in Africa, to effectively combat telephony fraud and boost revenues from international traffic. However, it is important to note that there is still no "2-way A2P Voice & SMS" service offering in these African countries dedicated to local businesses identified by virtual fixed numbers, as is the case in Western countries where the unified communications market is booming, constituting a major lever for digital transformation. To fill this gap, GTS Africa has set itself the mission of supporting incumbent operators in Africa in the provision of virtual fixed numbers associated with enterprise cloud communication platforms.
++ VOX SOLUTIONS and Orange Burkina Faso S.A Faso Partner to Combat Messaging Fraud and Traffic Inflation ++ VOX Solutions, a frontrunner in comprehensive A2P voice and messaging monetization solutions, unveils a groundbreaking partnership with Orange, the largest mobile operator in Burkina Faso. The partnership between Vox Solutions and Orange Burkina Faso forms an exclusive direct connectivity alliance, guaranteeing the secure and dependable transmission of A2P messages to Burkina Faso’s clients and international enterprises. The common objective is to safeguard mobile interactions from the rapidly escalating risks of message fraud and artificial traffic inflation (AIT). "Our fundamental mission is to support mobile operators such as Orange Burkina Faso in sustaining consistent revenue growth and fostering innovation. Addressing messaging fraud and AIT are central to the challenges we are eager to confront. We are privileged to commence this journey and remain steadfast in aiding our partners in achieving their business goals. This collaboration represents a significant step toward improved communication experiences and lasting success." - Ehsan Ahmadi, CEO & Founder, VOX Solutions #techafricanews #africa #burkinafaso #messaging #fraud #traffic #inflation #artificialtraffic #inflation #mobile #operators

India’s telecom regulator, TRAI, has ordered service providers to block all promotional calls from unregistered senders to tackle the rising issue of spam calls. Providers that violate this directive face blacklisting and disconnection from networks for up to two years. To prevent spammers from switching networks, all telecom providers must be informed within 24 hours of any violation, and the offender's phone lines must be cut off. Providers are also required to submit regular reports on actions taken against spam calls. This move aims to reduce spam calls significantly, addressing increasing consumer complaints and potential fraud risks. #SpamCallBlock #TelecomRegulation #TRAI #ConsumerProtection #SpamPrevention #IndiaTelecom #StopSpamCalls #TechNews #DigitalSecurity

Pakistani internet users faced another day of disruption on January 20, compounding the recent challenges with online connectivity. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) explained the blackout by citing ongoing system upgrades, assuring the public that it was a technical necessity. However, the provided timeline of “2 to 3 months” raised concerns among citizens. During a press conference, Director General Ahmed Shamim Pirzada, accompanied by Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi and FIA Cybercrime Director of Operations Waqaruddin Syed, faced a skeptical audience. The timing of the outage, coinciding with an announced online event by a specific political party, led to suspicions of intentional disruption. This skepticism was fueled by a familiar pattern of disruptions on December 17 and January 7, contributing to the perception of deliberate throttling. Minister Solangi reiterated the technical glitch explanation but acknowledged the possibility of further interruptions. #PTA #Pakistan #telecom #communication #CyberCrime #politics #Mobile #signal #connection #sparkpakistan

By 2022, with proactive measures from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom), these losses dramatically dropped to just EUR 600. How did they achieve this? Through strict enforcement of updated Regulation 28, targeting caller ID spoofing—a prevalent technique among scammers to mask their identities. This initiative, led by Klaus Nieminen at Liikenne- ja viestintävirasto Traficom / Transport- och kommunikationsverket Traficom, showcases a robust collaboration between the government and telecom operators, setting a precedent in cybersecurity and scam prevention.
