ICYMI: this recent article in Forbes highlights the #accessibility and #a11y work being done by Chet Frith at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. “[Frith] tries to continually learn how better the VA can serve veterans and employees. The overarching goal, Frith said, is to create a culture which ‘levels he playing field’ for everyone. It’s important because the VA is the largest federal employer of disabled people and, according to Frith, 12% of the agency’s population identifies with some sort of disability. Thus, what Frith and team do is ‘very important’ as it involves ensuring ‘all information and communication technology is accessible to everyone.’” At CivicActions, we are honored to support the VA's mission of ensuring accessible technology for our nation's veterans. Together, let's continue pushing boundaries and setting new standards in accessibility. Check out the article: https://lnkd.in/d4aVnVfS

Take Action to Protect Benefits for Disabled Veterans! H.R. 6362, the Protecting Benefits for Disabled Veterans Act, is a crucial step in safeguarding the rights of our veterans. Currently, there are 10,223 actions taken, but we need 9,777 more to reach the next goal! When a veteran's disability affects their ability to gain employment, Total Disability Based on Individual Unemployability (TDIU) provides vital support. However, recent proposals could limit TDIU benefits based on age. H.R. 6362 aims to protect TDIU by prohibiting considerations of a veteran's age or eligibility for other federal benefits. This ensures that all veterans, regardless of age or additional benefits, can access the support they deserve. Join us in supporting H.R. 6362 and advocating for the rights of our veterans. 🎗️ Contact your elected representatives and urge them to co-sponsor and support this critical legislation. Together, let's protect the benefits for disabled veterans and their families. #SupportVeterans #HR6362 #TakeActionNow

“Financial Insecurity and Suicidal Thoughts Each year, WWP conducts a survey of the injured, ill, and wounded veterans currently registered with the organization. According to the 2022 Annual Warrior Survey*: Overall, more than 1 in 4 WWP warriors considered suicide in the past year. One in 3 WWP warriors who struggled financially in the past year had thoughts of suicide. Rates are even higher among those facing food insecurity. This is concerning, given the survey notes 64% of WWP warriors struggled to make ends meet at some point in the last 12 months.” The above information from Wounded Warrior Project is the exact reason why support and passing of the #majorrichardstaract is vital! At no time should a disabled #veteran, moreover a medically retired #servicemembers have to worry where their next meal is coming from or how to provide for their family. It’s shameful that at no fault of their own(service to their country), they are forced to surrender and offset benefits I support Senator Jon Tester United States Senate and other bipartisan members US Congress who want to deliver earned benefits to medically retired combat-injured veterans.
