What if there was no path? Since we're born there is a path: elementary school, then high school, then... In every companies there is a path: junior accountant, senior accountant, fp&a analyst, fp&a manager , fp&a director. We rely on that stability and we need to know where all of this is going next. But what if we didn't know where this is going next? Why do we need to know everything in advance? When we watch a movie we don't know where this is gonna go do we? I see my life as a movie - I'm the own star (and I think you should be too, it's all about you in the end) I worked in a startup and the career path was not very defined. It caused anxiety to many people including myself. It's hard to not project ourselves in a year or two. But hey even though there was a career path when I was at PwC : director in 5 years etc., I never made it there anyway. At Ubisoft there was a career path and levels as well: didn't matter I left after a few years. Today I feel the warm sun on my skin. 8:50am. I'm "supposed" to work. I do work - a lot (all the time.), but who said that I couldn't take off on Friday morning? The path? There has never been a moment in my life where there was less path than right now. I feel like I'm doing the rainbow race in Mario Kart: Falling every now and then but enjoying the amazing view. I have a roof above my head, I'm healthy, never been in a better shape, great friends, family that I love, food in the fridge. Who cares about the path right now. Just enjoy and give your 💯

The technical skills of finance can be learned, but what will truly help you succeed is understanding how your business works. Don't just analyze numbers - immerse yourself in operations. Take the time to meet with department leaders. Ask them about challenges, goals, key drivers of revenue, and costs. Tour production facilities to see processes first-hand. Sit in on client meetings to grasp what they need. In short, breathe and live the business daily. Because forecasts and models are useless without context. But with context, you'll be ready to help make major decisions and create opportunities for growth. And that's how you deliver real value in this new role.
