Creative Critical Writing, What’s the Appeal? Part 2: Storytelling and creative critical writing go along so well. In creative critical writing (CCW) there is a definite search for meaning through a multidisciplinary approach. All my creative critical pieces (including my upcoming piece with Edinburgh University’s CounterText) tell a story. In fact, a reader once told me my piece “An Encounter with An Image” reads like a short story which incrementally unravels through the fusion of personal memoir, research, and the craft of creative writing. While academic writing showcases the power of your research and academic writing abilities, creative critical writing shows that you can weave your research into a compelling narrative, making the theoretical framework more accessible and engrossing for your readers. This mode of writing is also easily digestible, expanding your readership beyond a specific niche. As a pedagogical tool, the efficacy and appeal of this mode as a writing assignment cannot be overstated. Training students to fuse research and creation, begets a much higher level of engagement and student satisfaction. The feedback that I get from my students when they engage in CCW reveals the tenuousness of maintaining illusory separations between art and life, theory and practice, work and the self. The outcome is usually a much higher level of engagement between student and material, achieving learning objectives in a much more appealing way than traditional methods alone. Students achieve a level of academic knowledge, develop their writing skills, and learn more about the subject matter, making them more nimble scholars. Finally CCW is fun and therapeutic, have you tried it? #storytelling #skillsdevelopment #narrative #research #pedagogy #communication

Lecture II: Drawing from my experience as a teacher and researcher, I've encountered many reports that, despite their potential, fell short due to poor presentation. To help my students avoid this pitfall, I developed a focused crash course. This is essential because a primary goal of the project is for learners to produce compelling, well-structured research reports. To facilitate this, I employed a project-based teaching approach Title ——————— Should be concise, not exceeding two lines. Must contain key research keywords. Should convey the core message of the study. 1️⃣ Abstract Brief, self-contained overview. Summarize the essence of the study. 2️⃣ Introduction What Are You Talking About? Provide Background & Context. Identify the Gap. State Purpose and Objectives. Highlight Value and Significance. 3️⃣ Literature Review What Has Been Done? Analyze Existing Research. Identify Knowledge Gaps. Position Your Study. 4️⃣ Methods What Steps Did You Take? Describe Your Approach. Explain the Research Process. 5️⃣ Results What Did You Find? Present Key Data and Findings. 6️⃣ Discussion So What? Interpret the Results. Discuss Implications and Significance. 7️⃣ Conclusions What Do These Results Mean? Summarize Key Insights. Suggest Future Research Directions. Highlight the Impact of Your Findings. ——————— Pro tips: ♳ Stick to the structure to ensure clarity and coherence. ♴ Ensure each section answers the key questions outlined. ✔︎ Tailor the content to your audience's needs and expectations. ✔︎ Review your report to ensure each section flows logically. ——————— Assessment: Learners were then challenged to analyze this report: https://lnkd.in/e4RmyE6W Questions: — Identify the key sections of the paper and their components. — Extract the research gap (the most crucial statement in a report). — Classify the introductory texts as background or problem context. — Discover the appropriate way of writing an introduction, with an emphasis on concepts similar to lesson starters. Finally, learners were encouraged to reorganize the report; https://lnkd.in/ezwp36Hj using the herein structure as the blueprint. ♻️ Share this with others crafting their reports! New here? Like, comment, repost, and follow. Most importantly, share how you prepare your learners to write better reports. #ReportWriting #AcademicTips #ResearchStructure #ScientificWriting #PublicationTips

Primary school students often respond well to quick writes as a form of end-of-class plenary. Quick writes are a way to engage students in a brief, focused writing activity that allows them to reflect on what they have learned and process their thoughts about the topic. When done effectively, quick writes can help students to: 1. Consolidate their understanding of the lesson: By writing down their thoughts and ideas, students can better organize their knowledge and make connections between different concepts. 2. Develop their critical thinking skills: Quick writes encourage students to think critically about the topic and consider different perspectives, which can help to deepen their understanding of the subject matter. 3. Improve their writing skills: Regular practice with quick writes can help students to improve their writing skills, including their ability to express their thoughts clearly and coherently. 4. Engage in self-reflection: Quick writes can give students an opportunity to reflect on their learning process and identify areas where they need further improvement. Overall, quick writes can be an effective way to engage primary school students in a meaningful end-of-class plenary that encourages them to reflect on and consolidate their learning.
