It's a fancy way of saying it helps us create a virtual model of a construction project, complete with all the necessary information about its design, structure, and more. I spent a long time without a BIM team. A team where all disciplines were on the same page. Eventually, I decided not to collaborate with consultants with no BIM integration. Redoing projects is time-consuming, and I wasn't willing to take it anymore. Many people with vast experience in the field are not willing to match it with a BIM approach. A BIM-oriented practice can reduce the burden. And create a team that pushes the boundaries of construction. Gathering a BIM team requires determination and learning to say no to those not aligned. Sometimes it might be rude, but you don't want to feel the pain from disconnected information. When experience meets technology, you are on the other side.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) offers substantial benefits, but there are scenarios where its adoption might be reconsidered. 1. Unwillingness to Accept Longer Design Process Issue: Some stakeholders resist the extended design time inherent in BIM. Recommendation: Assess project requirements; BIM may not align with expectations if stakeholders prioritize speed over thoroughness. 2. Budget Constraints Due to Higher Costs a. High Hardware Costs: BIM demands robust hardware, potentially exceeding CAD requirements. b. Higher Salaries for Skilled Engineers: BIM-proficient engineers may command higher salaries. According to NBS, the following are 10-rules for a successful BIM implementation: 1 – Get senior management onboard 2 – Assemble the best team 3 – Determine and implement your standards 4 – Decide which tools you will use 5 – Train and develop your staff 6 – Hone the process 7 – Set realistic goals 8 – Don’t make things too complicated 9 – Plan for the worst 10 – Find a partner It is noticed that in the arrangement above, standard come after management is onboard & the team are assembled. Thus, the first task to be implement by the team is "setting up the company's standard". It may include standardizing BIM processes, BIM workflows, roles & responsibilities, etc... However, I believe that standardizing the template will be finalized after selecting the tools.
