How can health system boards make behavioral health a priority? By focusing on the mental health of people, patients and communities, health systems can play a critical role in driving meaningful change. "It is imperative that board members of hospitals and health care organizations prioritize and address mental health in their communities. By proactively monitoring and assessing the mental health needs of the community, board members can ensure that available resources are effectively leveraged to provide accessible and high-quality mental health services. They must collaborate with local stakeholders and promote innovative solutions to effectively address the growing mental health challenges in communities." -Arpan Waghray , MD, CEO, Providence's Well Being Trust Learn more: http://ms.spr.ly/6042YoZLY #healthcareleaders #mentalhealth #behavioralhealth

This October 10th, in celebration of World Health Day, I’m reflecting on this year’s theme, Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere. It’s a reminder that mental health is a critical part of overall health, yet so many still lack access to the care they need. Mental health challenges impact individuals, families, and communities. Breaking the stigma and expanding access to care must be at the forefront of our efforts. We must advocate for policies and solutions that ensure mental health support is accessible. Let’s continue the conversation, raise awareness, and take action. #WorldHealthDay2024 #MentalHealthAwareness #HealthEquity

On Mental Health Awareness Day, we’re reminded of the importance of creating meaningful connections between mental health patients and their providers. For many, feeling dismissed or misunderstood in healthcare settings is a common experience, especially for those managing mental health conditions. 🧠 We recently conducted a study of over 800 patients, that had some pretty interesting results... 👀 At Human Health, we believe that technology can play a critical role in improving these interactions. By providing tools that facilitate better communication and personalized care, we can help bridge the gap between patients and providers, ensuring that everyone’s voice is truly heard. When patients feel understood, trust grows—and with trust comes better outcomes and a healthier future for all. 💜 Read more about the study below, or in the white paper here: https://lnkd.in/ggkvkBsw #MentalHealthAwarenessDay #PatientAdvocacy #PersonalizedCare #MentalHealthMatters #HealthcareInnovation #TrustInHealthcare

Passionate Founder driving social change in Nigeria and beyond | Industry Expert & Thought Leader in Access to Justice, Gender Equality, and Girls in Tech
I was a panelist at an event that focused on Mental Health (MH) in the work place and the MH Act 2021. This Act replaced“The Lunacy Act of 1958” in 2023; The fact that it took over 60 years to replace an Act called “The Lunacy Act” where people with MH challenges were referred to as insane, is actually insane and speaks volumes about our approach to MH challenges. This MH Act of 2021 is supposed to represent a landmark achievement for MH care in Nigeria but does it really ? In my opinion it is majorly words on paper and my stance is based on a number of reasons, some of which are: - [ ] The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) does not cover MH which means that if one was to seek help for MH challenges they will have to pay out of pocket. - [ ] MH services are not available in primary healthcare facilities; You will be hard pressed to find a hospital that offers MH services. - [ ] Nothing is being done to create the much needed awareness to help reduce the stigma associated with MH challenges. - [ ] WHO states that only 4% of healthcare allocation is used for MH in a country where statistics have shown that at least 25% of citizens have some form of MH challenge. - [ ] Finally, attempted suicide is still criminalised, this I find completely bizarre. We need a strategic multi level approach that involves not just the government at different levels but also relevant stakeholders to tackle MH related issues, the Mental Health Act 2021 and related issues need to be placed at the front burner of national discourse.
LGCF’s Executive Director, Mrs. Kanayo Olisa-Metuh, served as a distinguished panelist at the African Union Agenda 2063 Mental Health Symposium in commemoration of World Mental Health Day 2024. The event focused on “Prioritizing Mental Health in the Workplace & Managing Stress.” Mrs. Olisa-Metuh emphasized the need for the government to create enabling laws that effectively address mental health challenges. She also highlighted the limitations of the Mental Health Act of 2021 and urged stakeholders and government agencies to take more proactive action. #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #MentalHealthInNigeria #Agenda2063 #LegendGoldenCareFoundation #MentalHealthAdvocacy
