Project Spotlight: Fifth & Sixth Grade Center Expansion and Renovation 🎵🚍 We're excited to share the latest milestone in Seymour Community Schools' growth journey, driven by a 2019 study with VPS! The Vision: To accommodate Seymour Community Schools' expanding needs, we’ve embarked on significant upgrades to the Fifth & Sixth Grade Center. These enhancements provide much-needed relief to the Elementary and Junior High Schools. What’s New? • Space Infill: Courtyards are enclosed to maximize space while offering shelter during storms. • New Facilities: Addition of dedicated music instruction spaces, a new gym, kitchen, and cafeteria—addressing the previous combined gym/cafeteria layout. • Renovations: Transforming the existing gym/cafeteria into a modern administration suite with a secured entrance and a new media center. • Traffic Flow: Enhanced separation of bus, car, and pedestrian traffic to improve safety and reduce conflicts. This expansion effectively doubled the current building capacity, supporting a growing student body and ensuring a more efficient, safe, and functional learning environment! https://lnkd.in/em5QHzEN #VPSArchitecture #SeymourSchools #EducationExpansion #FacilityUpgrades #CommunityGrowth #StudentSuccess #InnovativeDesign #K12Design

What is better than one student activities complex? Two student activities complexes! The Socorro ISD Student Activities Complex II will allow the six schools within the school district more flexibility in scheduling sporting events and special events, including concerts, movies, festivals, and banquets. The facility will also support fine arts, career and technology programs, and administration. In collaboration with HKS, Inc., Parkhill served as associate architect for the multi-level District Building on the south end. The terrace and floor-to-ceiling windows in the banquet hall offer premium stadium views. Parkhill also provided civil and landscape architectural design which artfully celebrates the local landscape aesthetic by integrating the 6500-seat stadium into the topography with terraces behind the end zones, accessibility guided by the landscape, and stadium fencing which blends into the facility. The field’s design allows for competition-level play including a separate field events zone. Site development unifies the site creating efficient event parking, safe pedestrian and traffic circulation, and proper drainage improvements. City of Socorro, Texas Socorro ISD HKS, Inc. The transformation of the dining area at Isleworth & Syon School For Boys, Hounslow, is a testament to how thoughtful design can breathe new life into existing spaces. In our seventh project for the school, we secured funding through a successful CIF Bid, enabling us to improve Drama and Music spaces while addressing the need for more dining and social 'zones’. By focusing on building reuse, we minimised the need for new development, significantly transforming the school’s estate. Disjointed teaching areas were reconfigured, making room for a series of connected dining rooms designed to serve lower, upper, and sixth form students. These distinct zones have improved functionality and created a stronger sense of ownership among students, enhancing both the social and learning experience. In Vancouver, we have a vocal minority who just can't accept that Central Broadway - with the second highest concentration of jobs in the province - has grown to be an extension of the downtown . They just can't accept that new planning policy has been vetted and approved by Council after a multi-year public planning process. Minority opponents continue to produce crappy "birdshit-architecture" renders (borrowing a term from urbanist Jan Gehl) to fear-monger and complain about the development of new market and below-market rental housing, new local-serving shops and services, new childcares, improved streetscapes, places for people to socialize. I say consider the quality of the applications that are all available online, particularly the design at grade, the most important part of a building. In addition to thousands of new market and below-market homes, work spaces and social amenities like new daycares, I urge decision makers to consider the high quality of street-level design, landscaping, trees and public spaces proposed for the great majority of Broadway Plan applications as they all go through intensive City design review. MCM + HAPA's 2111 Main St is one example among scores of others that demonstrate very excellent public ream and streetscapes.

This year, we were honoured to collaborate with New Hall School on a truly inspiring project that exemplifies both our design capabilities and our dedication to delivering excellence. The school presented us with a distinctive challenge: to transform their Politics and Business Centre into an environment that would ignite ambition and inspire future leaders, with a nod to one of the most iconic political addresses in the world—Downing Street. Our design team embraced the ambitious brief, working meticulously to bring this vision to life. With only weeks before the summer holidays, we accelerated the design and planning process, ensuring we could deliver this high-profile project within a six-week timeframe. The centrepiece of the project was the creation of a stunning replica of Downing Street, complete with an alleyway through the building that mirrors the famous London street. The result is a truly remarkable space that captures every detail of the original, down to the exact design of the famous doors of numbers 9, 10, and 11. We left no stone unturned in ensuring authenticity, even going so far as to engage the very decorators responsible for painting the actual doors of Downing Street. This attention to detail extended to the letter plates, door furniture, and overall finish, all of which have been crafted to replicate the original as closely as possible. Ian Houghton, Managing Director, proudly remarked: “The quality of our work here speaks for itself. From the carefully selected materials to the precision in execution, this project has been delivered to the highest standards. Our longstanding relationship with New Hall School, spanning over 20 years, is built on trust and collaboration. This project is a testament to our commitment to delivering exceptional results on time and within budget, while consistently exceeding our client’s expectations.” The completion of this project not only demonstrates our technical and creative capabilities but also highlights our ability to manage complex projects under tight time constraints. We are incredibly proud of the outcome and the opportunity to contribute to the educational environment at New Hall School, inspiring the next generation of leaders. This case study exemplifies the core values of Houghton & Son Ltd: attention to detail, a commitment to quality, and a passion for bringing our clients’ visions to life. #HoughtonBuilding #HoughtonElectrical #HoughtonRenewables #BespokeDesign #EssexBuilders #HighEndConstruction #NewHallSchool #Renovation #FamilyBusiness #InteriorDesign #ExteriorDesign #Business #CaseStudy

A little-known fact about Hershey Montessori’s Upper School is that its 9th-12th grade academic building was the first in the Midwest United States designed and constructed with Passive House Institute United States (PHIUS) criteria, making it both environmentally friendly and energy-saving through design technology. What is Passive House? Passive house design is a construction standard that uses architectural design to reduce energy consumption for heating, cooling, and lighting. The goal is to create comfortable, environmentally friendly buildings that require little to no energy input to control the indoor climate. Read more at: https://bit.ly/4gCZMcN
