We are pleased to announce that Simpluris, Inc. has completed a strategic sale to CyEx, a subsidiary of Pango. VRA acted as the exclusive financial advisor to Simpluris. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Simpluris is an industry leader in class action settlement administration for the public sector across various verticals, notably employment and consumer litigation. Simpluris will continue to be run by its experienced leadership team. The acquisition will enable CyEx, a leading provider of cyber and data breach response solutions, to expand its footprint in the Data Breach, Cyber Security and Privacy litigation channels which will broaden its access to new channels and provide vital data breach restitution to more customers. CISOs and defenders take note; it is very important and beneficial to include your internal and external counsel in your breach response, tabletops, and we recommend even including them in your penetration testing. Understanding appropriate usage of attorney / client privilege and acting in lockstep with your counsel can be extremely helpful, and you never want to exchange business cards in a war zone. Be prepared and include your counsel in the planning stages, not just after the fact.

If a bug in your software update can tank 9 million endpoints, the problem is not the bug. The problem is the way your software is built. The Nemesis platform could never cause this kind of chaos. There are an infinite number of ways to find anomalous behavior in endpoints, so I pursued an R&D path that didn’t require root access. And because I’m a big personal privacy advocate, our software doesn’t read nor access sensitive files. The company 23andMe, valued at $6 billion, now faces a possible delisting from Nasdaq and dozens of class action lawsuits. Security flaws: ➡ The company did not detect the data breach for more than five months; ➡ The ancestry data of around 6.9 million users was stolen; ➡ Hackers gained access to screen names, family information, photos and phone calls between relatives. Consequences: ➡ The company's stock fell from $16 to $0.76 per share; ➡ Nasdaq issued a delisting notice; ➡ The company is burning through cash quickly and could run out of resources next year; ➡ Dozens of class-action lawsuits have been filed against the company. In organizations operating in high-risk environments, prioritizing security - ranging from data protection to patient and customer safety - is essential. The immediate identification and correction of faults, or even potential faults, are crucial. Furthermore, it is imperative to develop and implement robust action plans that prevent the recurrence of these failures.
