Read on for our take on the topic, extracted from our recent newsletter: 🎮 In 2024, the gaming industry is set for significant growth, driven by augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies, AI, and machine learning (ML). 🕶 Meta's Quest 3 leads in VR, outpacing Sony's PSVR 2 and Apple's Vision Pro due to cost and compatibility issues. 🕹 The global esports market, valued at US$1.3 billion in 2022, reached US$1.7 billion in 2023 and is expected to hit US$4.3 billion by 2024. Cloud gaming, powered by 5G, enhances accessibility. 💸 FaZe Clan’s collapse, once valued at over $1 billion, ended in a $17 million all-stock acquisition by GameSquare Holdings Inc. in October 2023, exposing financial challenges in esports. Despite financial issues, esports clubs are attracting newer sponsors going into 2024. 🇰🇷 The 2023 Riot Games League of Legends World Championship in South Korea set records with 6.4 million concurrent viewers and a 1.3 million average during its 116-hour run. 🕹️ Esports is totally rocking it in the MENA region, but what's next on the horizon? Well, here's my take — welcome to Esports 2.0, where cloud computing and AI all join the party to crank up the fun and interactive factor in gaming. VR/AR tech is definitely having a moment, but I'm not convinced it's gonna take over the esports scene. VR goggles are a bit bulky and pricey, which isn't ideal for all of us to join in. AR is still figuring out how to get the realism and tracking accuracy spot on. But cloud gaming? Now we're talking. It gives you the power to play any game on any device without the hassle of downloading and installing. Take NVIDIA GeForce Now, for example, it provides a great gaming experience, while PlayStation Now features over 800 games. So, more people in eSports= more eSports fun. And let's not forget AI. Imagine even more competent opponents and a tailor-made gaming experience for you. Games that keep everyone, regardless of skill level, hooked. And the perfect sync between players and viewers? That's the secret sauce digital platforms, advertisers, sponsors, and rights holders are all on the hunt for. So, let's wrap this up. Basically, Esports 2.0 is all about: ⚫ Opening up a whole new world for players: ultra-realistic and interactive gaming environments, fresh tactics, and skills out of this world. ⚫ Amping up the experience for viewers: top-tier tech for that total immersion feel, fresh perspectives, and interactive broadcasts. ⚫ Striking gold for the industry: reaching out to more fans, exploring new markets, and tapping into never-ending revenue streams. So, what are you most hyped about regarding Esports 2.0? Drop a comment! #Esports #FutureOfGaming #VRinGaming #InteractiveGaming #NextGenEsports

What is Phygital eSports? "Phygital eSports" is a blend of the physical and digital worlds within the realm of competitive gaming. It creates a unique and immersive experience for players and spectators alike. In phygital eSports, physical objects or environments are integrated into digital gaming experiences through Augmented Reality (#AR), Virtual Reality (#VR), #sensors or #Robotics technologies. This integration can take various forms, such as using physical controllers, peripherals, or even real-world locations as part of the gameplay. Phygital esports not only enhances immersion and engagement but also opens up new possibilities for creative gameplay and innovative competition formats. It blurs the lines between the virtual and physical worlds, offering players a truly dynamic and interactive gaming experience. An early example of Phygital eSports dates back to 2006 with Nintendo Wii game console. The Wii remote was built to recognise motion into gesture recognition used to compete against each other in real-time. Robotic Sports is another form of phygital esports, where physical robots engage in competitions in arenas or controlled environments. While the robots themselves are physical entities, their actions and interactions within the game are controlled by digital technologies. As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see even more exciting developments in phygital esports, with new ways to blend physical and digital elements to push the boundaries of competitive gaming. #Phygital #eSports Shruti Kharbanda Ashim Mahajan Anirudh Garg Jaya Chahar Indian Chamber of Commerce

"Do you use AR/VR in your productions? Not currently, but there is a big place for that in esports in the future. It can feel fake, but if done well it will be more believable. Having said that, utilising AR or VR would be a good fit for the player walk-ins on the stage. It could also be used for the stage, but using these features requires a lot of testing – for example, you would need to analyse the cameras and what programmes would be sufficient to ensure you get the best result."
